TWO FOR TUESDAY

Link: [Alabama]

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

Roll On
Alabama
Roll on highway
Roll on along
Roll on daddy
‘Til you get back home
Roll on family
Roll on crew
Roll on momma
Like I asked you to do
And roll on 18-wheeler
Roll on
Roll on

Well it’s Monday mornin’
He’s kissin’ momma goodbye
He’s up and gone
With the sun
Daddy drives an 18-wheeler
And he’s off on a Midwest run
As three sad faces gather ‘round momma
They ask her when daddy’s comin’ home
Daddy drives an 18-wheeler
And they sure miss him when he’s gone
Yeah they do

Ah but he calls them every night
And he tells them
That he loves them
He taught them this song to sing

Roll on highway
Roll on along
Roll on daddy
‘Til you get back home
Roll on family
Roll on crew
Roll on momma
Like I asked you to do
And roll on 18-wheeler
Roll on
Roll on

Well it’s Wednesday evenin’
Momma’s waitin’ by the phone
It rings
But it’s not his voice
Seems the highway patrol has found a jack-knifed rig
In a snow bank in Illinois
But the driver was missin’
And the search had been abandoned
For the weather had everything stalled
And they had checked all the houses
And the local motels
When they had some more news they’d call
And she told them when they found him
To tell him that she loved him
And she hung the phone singin’

Roll on highway
Roll on along
Roll on daddy
‘Til you get back home
Roll on family
Roll on crew
Roll on momma
Like I asked you to do
And roll on 18-wheeler
Roll on

Momma and the children
Will be waitin’ up all night long
Thinkin’ nothing’ but the worst is comin’
With the ringin’ of the telephone
Oh but the Man upstairs was listenin’
When momma asked Him to bring daddy home
And when the call came in
It was daddy on the other end
Askin’ her if she had been singin’ the song
Singin’

Roll on highway
Roll on along
Roll on daddy
‘Til you get back home
Roll on family
Roll on crew
Roll on momma
Like I asked you to do
And roll on 18-wheeler

Roll on highway
Roll on along
Roll on daddy
‘Til you get back home
Roll on family
Roll on crew
Roll on momma
Like I asked you to do
And roll on 18-wheeler
Roll on
Roll on

18-wheeler
18-wheeler
18-wheeler
18-wheeler
Roll on
Roll on
Roll on
Roll on

I’m In A Hurry (And Don’t Know Why)
Alabama
I’m in a hurry
To get things done
Oh I
Rush and rush
Until life’s no fun
All I really gotta do
Is live and die
But I’m in a hurry
And don’t know why

Don’t know why
I have to drive so fast
My car has nothing to prove
It’s not new
But it’ll do zero to sixty
In five point two

Oh
I’m in a hurry
To get things done
Oh I
Rush and rush
Until life’s no fun
All I really gotta do
Is live and die
But I’m in a hurry
And don’t know why

Can’t be late
I leave in plenty of time
Shakin’ hands with the clock
I can’t stop
I’m on a roll
And I’m ready to rock

Oh
I’m in a hurry
To get things done
Oh I
Rush and rush
Until life’s no fun
All I really gotta do
Is live and die
But I’m in a hurry
And don’t know why

Oh I hear a voice
That says I’m runnin’ behind
I better pick up my pace
It’s a race
And there ain’t
No room for someone in second place

I’m in a hurry
To get things done
I rush and rush
Until life’s no fun
All I really gotta do
Is live and die
But I’m in a hurry
And don’t know why

I’m in a hurry
To get things done
Oh I
Rush and rush
Until life’s no fun
All I really gotta do
Is live and die
But I’m in a hurry
And don’t know why

I’m in a hurry
To get things done
Oh I
Rush and rush
Until life’s no fun
All I really gotta do
Is live and die
But I’m in a hurry
And don’t know why

I’m in a hurry
To get things done
Oh I
Rush and rush
Until life’s no fun
All I really gotta do
Is live and die
But I’m in a hurry
And don’t know why

  1. Roll on....makes me want to jump in an 18 wheeler and hit the highway. Talking about highways, I heard a song from The Highwayman that I loved but can't remember the name of it. What a band Cash, Nelson and the other guys.

  2. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ryan!!! I'm really glad you liked the song. I racked up around 3 million miles behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler before I had to quit because of my poor health. Be assured that I really miss it at times.

The Highwaymen will be featured in one of these down the road (PUN INTENDED!), and it may have been "The Highwayman" that you heard. It starts out with, "I was a highwayman, upon the coach roads I did ride, with a sword and pistol by my side." If so, it is one of my all-time favorite songs.

  3. Sometimes I wish I became a truck driver instead of what I do, especially when listening to this. :)

Hope you have a nice Tuesday FishHawk!

  4. I've always like Alabama. I used to have a Christmas tape of theirs that I would listen to any time of the year :)

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Oyvind!!! It may be different in Norway, but over here, it is really not a job for a family man. That is, unless you can land a dedicated route between home and somewhere not more than a day away. For the one thing that you can count on while being a regular over-the-road truck driver is that you will most often be where you don't want to be--especially when there is something important going on at home. Now, for a single person with no particular ties to any specific place, it can be quite a life to live, and I can see where it might be even more exciting over there if you could travel all over Europe. Of course, obtaining and presenting all of the permits would probably be a real pain.

  7. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! Funny, I really struggled with including them because of thinking that they were too country for my general audience, but from the comments I have received so far, it would seem that I had nothing to worry about. Back when I was still married to Sam, we got to see them in concert twice, and she got a kiss from Randy Ownen, who is the lead singer, after the last one, which was held in the old Barnhill Arena on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Hmm, I wonder if that might have been when she started thinking about running me off?
