Come Monday...Willie Wonka

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (I am told).

[Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory] has not been one of my favorite movies (to say the least). My wife loves it, but it keeps trying to turn into a musical, which is something that I do not suffer gladly. Furthermore, Willie Wonka himself is generally rather indifferent until the very end of the movie, and by then, I have become as such to any of the reasons that he may have for appearing that way.

Alas, as with so many other things, our Heavenly Father has changed my way of looking at what is really going on in this movie. In fact, He even insists that it comes close to portraying what He has been doing in this world. So, was it from the Lord God Almighty Himself that I heard this or was it something else?

If you are not already quite familiar with the movie, I highly recommend you taking some time to see it for yourself. The YouTube clips provided overlap in some places, but they cover the entire movie in 10 minute or so bites.

If you don’t have time for such nonsense, the movie is basically about an eccentric confectioner, who places 5 golden tickets in chocolate candy bars that have been distributed throughout this world. The ones who find the golden tickets are invited to compete for a lifetime supply of chocolate during a tour of his factory, which has reportedly not had anyone go into, nor come out from, for several years. To add even more intrigue to the plot, a man, who identifies himself as being a rival of Willie Wonka, namely a Mr. Slugworth, offers each holder of a golden ticket £10,000 for an Everlasting Gobstopper, which is a new candy that could bring ruin to his fortunes. At the end of the tour, only Charlie has not been clearly eliminated from contention, but he is informed that he is also a loser because of breaking a rule along the way. Charlie redeems himself, however, by giving back the Everlasting Gobstopper that he had been given during the tour to Mr. Wonka instead of giving it to Mr. Slugworth. It is at this time that it is revealed that Mr. Slugworth is actually an employee of Mr. Wonka, and Charlie is given not only a lifetime supply of chocolate, but the factory itself, where he and his family can live for the rest of their days.

No, the movie is not an exact portrayal of what our Heavenly Father wants to accomplish, but it come oh so very close in ways that most dare not consider. So, have you been given ears to hear, and the courage to accept what He actually says is absolutely true? Of course, it may very well be just a figment of my own demonically-inspired imagination.
