ATF: All About Fanny

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to make.  I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Fat-Bottomed Girls
Queen
Are
You gonna take me home tonight
Ah
Down beside that red firelight
Are
You gonna let it all hang out
Fat-bottomed girls
You make the rockin' world go ‘round

Hey

I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad
But I knew life before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat Fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Heap big woman
You made a bad boy out of me

Hey hey

I've been singin’ with my band
Across the wire
Across the land
I’ve seen every blue-eyed floozy on the way
But their beauty
And their style
Went kind of smooth after a while
Take me to them dirty ladies every time

Oh
Won't you take me home tonight
Oh
Down beside your red firelight
Oh
And you give it all you got
Fat-bottomed girls
You make the rockin' world go ‘round
Fat-bottomed girls
You make the rockin' world go ‘round

Hey
Listen here

Now I got mortgages on homes
I got stiffness in the bones
Ain't no beauty queens in this locality
I tell you
Oh but I still get my pleasure
Still got my greatest treasure
Heap big woman
You gonna make a big man out of me

Now get this

Are
You gonna take me home tonight
Please
Oh
Down beside that red firelight
Are
You gonna let it all hang out
Fat-bottomed girls
You make the rockin' world go ‘round
Fat-bottomed girls
You make the rockin' world go ‘round

Get on your bikes and ride

Ooooh
Yeah
Oh yeah
Them fat-bottomed girls
Fat-bottomed girls
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Oh yeah
Ride
Fat-bottomed girls
Yes
Yes

The Weight
The Band
I pulled into Nazareth
Was feelin' about half past dead
I just need some place
Where I can lay my head
Hey mister
Can you tell me
Where a man might find a bed
He just grinned
And shook my hand
No
Was all he said

Take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And
And
And
You put the load right on me
You put the load right on me

I picked up my bag
I went lookin' for a place to hide
When I saw Carmen and the Devil
Walkin' side by side
I said
Hey Carmen
Come on let's go downtown
She said
I gotta go
But my friend can stick around

Take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And
And
And
You put the load right on me
You put the load right on me

Go down Miss Moses
There's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke
And Luke's waitin' on the Judgment Day
Well Luke
My friend
What about young Anna Lee
He said
Do me a favor son
Won'tcha stay
And keep Anna Lee company

Take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And
And
And
You put the load right on me
You put the load right on me

Crazy Chester followed me
And he caught me in the fog
He said
I will fix your rack
If you'll take Jack
My dog
I said
Wait a minute Chester
You know I'm a peaceful man
He said
That's okay boy
Won't you feed him when you can

Yeah

Take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And
And
And
You put the load right on me
You put the load right on me

Catch a cannonball
Now to take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low
And I do believe it's time
To get back to Miss Fanny
You know she's the only one
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone

Take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And
And
And
You put the load right on me
You put the load right on me

  1. Dearie me, a plastic pop group like queen placed alongside a proper group like The Band? A disgrace!

  2. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! For someone who is only half there most of the time, you got it half right this time!

  3. Thanks for stopping by, my dear TWG!!! You obviously still have hearing in both ears (unlike SOME people, like Adullamite).

  4. A couple of golden oldies. I remember both well

  5. I used to love Queen-- still have a few of their songs on my Ipod. Great choices. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  6. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! So, maybe you have not gone downhill as much as it has appeared? (LOL?)

  7. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Julie!!! Around 10 of their songs could very easily be included in this series.

  8. I love, love, love Queen! Freddie Mercury was unique...he was the best! What a singer; what an entertainer. Any documentary that comes on about Queen and I watch it...no matter if I've seen it before. Great! Great! Great!

Did I mention I love Queen and Freddie?

When they stepped on stage at the "Live-Aid" concert in 1985 Freddie not only took over the stage and those present out front in the audience...but he took over the rest of the world, as well. It was his concert! Magnificent! That performance still takes my breath away every time I see the re-runs.

I do like The Band, too.

  9. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! You really need to have a talk with Adullamtie. For he seems to be somewhat less than appreciative of Freddy and Queen's musical masterpieces.

Hey, have they started the English version of The Killing down there yet? Arlynda and I recorded the entire third season on our DVR, and we are just now watching it. Don't worry, I will refrain from playing spoiler, but I don't think you'll mind hearing that the third season moves along at a much faster pace than the first two seasons did.

  10. No...the US version hasn't started here yet...I've been keeping an eye out for it...the Danish version is still running.

I agree that the last season was slow moving...I still enjoyed it though...the bleakness of it etc., and am looking forward to the new lot. I hope it starts here soon.

Have you seen "The Blacklist"? I may have asked you this before...it's starting next week. I'm a big fan of James Spader...always have been...so I'm looking forward to watching it...and it looks as if it will be pretty good, from the trailers I've seen.

  11. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lee!!! No, the Blacklist has not started yet. I think the first episode is due at the end of the month or so. We are also fairly huge Spader fans, and we think Blacklist will be a perfect role for his extremely dry wit. We absolutely loved him on Boston Legal.

Well, we finished the third season of The Killing a couple of hours ago. I would highly recommend recording the entire season and watching it over a few days, if you can. There are technically only 10 episodes to the third season, but the first and last ones are two hours long. Make sure you don't miss any of the last episode. Oh, and I have what may be some bad news for you. For as it now stands, there will not be a fourth season of at least the American version. Hopefully, someone else will want to bankroll and broadcast it.

  12. That's a shame that, at this stage, they're not making a fourth season of The Killing. I look forward to watching the third, though...from what you've said it sounds very goo.

I loved Boston Legal...never missed an episode. I was very sad to see the end of it. I loved the endings where Spader and Shatner sat with their scotches and cigars and chewed the fat.
I'm a huge fan of anything with David E. Kelley's name on it. He's a great writer and must also have a great stable of writers.

  13. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lee!!! If they don't produce a fourth season in English, it might be time to learn Danish!

It is good to see David's wife, Michelle Pfeiffer, working again. We loved her in Johnny Depp's "Dark Shadows," and we are looking forward to seeing her in "The Family" (with Robert De Niro) when we can.
