Around
2 months ago, I was delighted to find an email from Ms. Hannah Phillips in my
inbox, who was asking if I would like to publish a review of a sampling of what
[efoodsDIRECT] has to offer. Since she
was offering to send the meals so that we could actually try them, I fired off
a very enthusiastic affirmative reply almost immediately. For it has never made much sense to me to
publish a review of something that I have never had any actual experience with,
and those are the kind of reviews that I am often asked to publish.
Anyway,
after exchanging a few more emails and publishing a preliminary piece on [The Trib], she informed me that she would get the meals to me right away. Then I began to wonder if this offer was too
good to be true. For the weeks went by,
and nothing from efoodsDIRECT came to our door.
Even more troubling to me was that I received no replies to my emailed
inquiries about what might be going on.
Well,
around a week ago, the thought came to mind to try to get into contact with
someone with the company by phone, and a couple of days after trying to explain
everything to the nice lady on the other end, a package from efoodsDIRECT came
in the mail. So, I was back to being
delighted again, and the delight continued when we tried the meals.
The
first night, my wife prepared the 4-serving portion of [Cheesy Chicken Rice Casserole]. This required bringing 5
cups of water to a boil, stirring in the ingredients from the package, reducing
the heat to medium, cooking for 20-25 minutes while occasionally stirring and
finally removing from heat and letting it rest for five minutes. Salt and pepper can be added, if preferred,
and adding a couple of tablespoons of butter can improve the taste and
texture. Simply put, it proved to be
quite wonderful to eat without adding anything, and trying to guess what might
actually be the chicken added some fun to the meal. In all fairness, it had plenty of chicken
taste and smell, and larger chunks of meat in a dry preparation are often
inedible—at least to us.
The
next thing we tried was the [Creamy Potato Soup], which required basically the
same preparation as the Cheeesy Chicken Rice Casserole. Okay, the next thing my wife and her mother
tried was the Creamy Potato Soup. For I
won’t touch the stuff—regardless of how it is prepared. I thought I could hear some mumbling about
not wanting to share any of it with me anyway between slurps, but neither one
would either confirm or deny anything of the sort.
Last,
but certainly not least, was the [Tortilla Soup], which I was a little
apprehensive of. For it just didn’t
sound like something I would like, but it proved to be almost as good as the
Cheesy Chicken Rice Casserole. In fact,
I believe that it would be a great addition to a pot of pinto beans, if one was
so inclined.
Alas,
I still haven’t received another email from anyone at efoodsDIRECT, but the
ones manning the phones at either 1-800-876-0871 or 1-800-605-5868 seem to be
on the ball. So, if you are looking to
stockpile a cache of nutritious foodstuffs in the hope of surviving a 25
year-long nuclear winter or merely have some quick and easy meals to serve when
you don’t feel like doing much cooking, [efoodsDIRECT] just might have what you
are looking for.
