TWO FOR TUESDAY

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

The Boys of Summer
Don Henley
Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer’s out of reach
Empty lake
Empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I’m drivin’ by your house
Though I know
You’re not home

I can see you
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
You got your hair combed back
And your sunglasses on baby
And I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy
Remember how I made you scream
Now I don’t understand
What’s happened to our love
But babe I’m gonna get you back
I’m gonna show you what I’m made of

I can see you
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
I see you walkin’ real slow
And smilin’ at everyone
I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

Out on the road today
I saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said
Don’t look back
You can never look back
I thought I know what love was
What did I know
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but

I can see you
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
You got that top pulled down
And that radio on baby
And I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
I can see you
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
You got that hair slicked back
And those wayfarers on baby
I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

The Heart of the Matter
Don Henley
I got the call today
I didn’t want to hear
But I knew that it would come
An old true friend of ours
Was talkin’ on the phone
She said you found someone
And I thought of all the bad luck
And the struggles we went through
And how I lost me
And you lost you
What are these voices
Outside love’s open door
Make us throw off our contentment
And beg for something more

I’m learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes
The more I know
The less I understand
All the things I thought I knew
I’m learning again
I’ve been tryin’ to get down
To the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it’s about
Forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if
Even if
You don’t love me anymore

Now these times are so uncertain
There’s a yearning undefined
And people filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
How can love survive
In such a graceless age
Ah the trust and self-assurance
That leads to happiness
They’re the very things
We kill I guess
Ah pride and competition
Cannot fill these empty arms
And the work I put between us
You know it doesn’t keep me warm

I’m learning to live without you now
But I miss you baby
The more I know
The less I understand
All the things I thought I figured out
I have to learn again
I’ve been tryin’ to get down
To the heart of the matter
But everything changes
And my brain seems to scatter
But I think it’s about
Forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if
Even if
You don’t love me anymore

There are people in your life
Who’ve come and gone
They let you down
You know they hurt your pride
You’d better put it all behind you baby
‘Cause life goes on
You keep carryin’ that anger
It’ll eat you up inside baby

I’ve been tryin’ to get down
To the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it’s about
Forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if
Even if
You don’t love me
I’ve been tryin’ to get down
To the heart of the matter
Because the flesh will get weak
And the ashes will scatter
So I’m thinkin’ about
Forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if
Even if
You don’t love me

Forgiveness
Hey
Forgiveness
Baby
Forgiveness
Oh
Forgiveness
Hey hey
Forgiveness
Oh
Forgiveness

Even if
You don’t love me anymore

Forgiveness
Oh
Forgiveness
Oh

  2. Well done today. Duke must have put in a request for these right? He was hoping that if I heard a couple really good songs I would be happy enough to slip him some extra treats.

  3. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Coleen!!! You probably already know this, but if you didn't, that little boy playing drums in the video for "The Boys of Summer" is actually playing at least part of the drums on the recording of the song itself. I don't remember the whole story, but I think he is the son of someone associated with the production of the video. Anyway, he was down on the set, and when Don Henley heard him messing around on the drums, he insisted upon the kid being in the song, as well as the video.
