Come Monday...RyukyuMike

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

I started to title this piece as, WINNING!, but that brings up bad memories of Charlie Sheen’s meltdown.  Okay, and very few of you would believe it.  OKAY, anyone sober wouldn’t believe it, and the truth be told, he probably just felt sorry for me.

Anyway, around three weeks ago, I entered a contest on [Mike’s Ryukyu Gallery], and I was named one of the winners.  Oh yeah, I was absolutely thrilled.  For the following is what I won.

Yep, that’s an osprey, which is also known as a fish hawk.  Quite obviously, they also live on and around Okinawa.  For that is where Mike lives, and where most of his pictures are taken.

Not only does he take spectacular pictures of all sorts of wonderful things, Mike has a wonderful sense-of-humor, which will be sorely tested.  For when I first thought about the following song for this piece, I was thinking that he is a Scot.  Well, it turns out that Lynch is Irish.  I really do hope he still thinks it’s funny.

A Sunday Drive

Back during my childhood, our parents would often load up my brother and me after Sunday morning church services for a leisurely drive around where we lived.  Even though we were seeing mostly familiar sights, it was still good to see them, and this is why “A Sunday Drive” sounded about right for the name of a weekly series revisiting familiar sites that are well worth seeing again and again.  The link below the image is to the site itself, and the image is linked to the post it was first included in here.

Trib Updates and SOS!

This is a weekly series that will include a brief summary of the latest articles that have been published on The Tribulation Times Herald-Exhorter.  Hopefully, this will encourage you to go check out some truly outstanding articles that have been published by a number of truly outstanding authors.  Moreover, I hope this will also encourage you to want to become a contributing member/author, as well.  The “Hear Ye!  Hear Ye!” site explanation near the top of the side-bar should answer many of your questions.  Along with the updates, there will be some commentary on some of the spam that has been sent my way, which is what the SOS! (Spam On Saturdays!) is all about.  No, I do not expect to accomplish anything with the spammers.  For if they understood what they are doing, surely they wouldn’t be doing it, but it will make me feel better, which is all that counts—right?

[Jisr al-Shughour] is a very poignant article by Adullamite about some reasons for and against going to war.

[Smokers Ruin Outdoor Concerts For Me] is another provocative by Lavender Darwin.

[Let’s Clear The Air] has me wondering who is really behind a proposed cigarette tax hike in Missouri.

[Letter to Gene Simmons] came as quite a shock to me.  For it is from Lavender Darwin, and instead of being a rant against the KISS rocker’s antics, this letter is full of compassion.

[Largest-Ever Abortion Facility in U.S. Sparks Moral Outcry] contains a linked image of a huge abortion facility in Houston, TX from Lavender Darwin.

Okay, please bear with me for a minute.  For I realize that this notification looks rather suspicious, but the across the holler neighbors of my first wife were Craigs.  No, there wouldn’t be anything all that significant to that except for the fact that one of their sons had an ornery streak about a mile wide to him, and he loved making trouble for Sam and I during our courtship.  Well, years later, he and I became fairly good friends, and I am thinking that this might be a way for him to ease his conscience over being so mean years ago.  Furthermore, this email coming out of Albania makes it sound even more legitimate to me.  So, what do you think?

Sites To See

The SOLE purpose of this weekly series is to call attention to sites that I think many would find most interesting—in one way or another.  Just to be clear, inclusion in this series is not necessarily meant as a recommendation, and I have included sites that are rather disturbing to me.  The link below each image is to the site itself, and each image is linked to the particular post from which it was taken when applicable.  Please, go see for yourself.

Arlo Guthrie vs. Willie Nelson

City of New Orleans
Arlo Guthrie
Ridin’ on
The City of New Orleans
Illinois Central
Monday morning rail
Fifteen cars
And fifteen restless riders
Three conductors
And twenty-five sacks of mail
All along the southbound odyssey
The train pulls out of Kankakee
And rolls along past houses farms and fields
Passin’ trains that have no name
Freight yards full of old black men
And the graveyards of the rusted automobile

Good mornin’ America
How are ya
Say
Don’t you know me
I’m your native son
I’m the train they call
The City of New Orleans
I’ll be gone five hundred miles
When the day is done

Dealin’ card games
With the old men in the club car
Penny a point
Ain’t no one keepin’ score
Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle
Feel the wheels
Rumblin’ ‘neath the floor
And the sons of Pullman porters
And the sons of engineers
Ride their fathers’ magic carpets
Made of steel
Mothers with their babes asleep
Rockin’ to the gentle beat
And the rhythm of the rails
Is all they feel

Good mornin’ America
How are ya
Say
Don’t you know me
I’m your native son
I’m the train they call
The City of New Orleans
I’ll be gone five hundred miles
When the day is done

Night time
On the City of New Orleans
Changin’ cars
In Memphis Tennessee
Halfway home
We’ll be there by mornin’
Through the Mississippi darkness
Rollin’ down to the sea
But all the towns and people seem
To fade into a bad dream
And the steel rail
Still ain’t heard the news
The conductor sings his songs again
The passengers will please refrain
This train’s got the disappearin’
Railroad blues

Good night America
How are ya
Say
Don’t you know me
I’m your native son
I’m the train they call
The City of New Orleans
I’ll be gone five hundred miles
When the day is done

WhiteHeart Wednesday

MP3 Audio Player From: [BlogDumps Video]

How Many Times (Seventy Times Seven)
WhiteHeart
Lord
I got no more tears to cry
Someone has hurt me
Done me wrong
I’m walking wounded
Oh Lord

Lord
This pain is a knife of fire
Why does it have to turn out this way
Why do the innocent seem to pay

How many times
Must I stand in the waves of this crashing sea
How many times
Must I forgive all the hurt that’s been done to me
Let the jury go
Set the sinner free of
Seventy times seven

Lord
I really don’t understand
I’m looking ‘round for some stones to throw
You’re telling me I should let it go

How many times
Must I stand in the waves of this crashing sea
How many times
I hear what You’re saying inside of me
But I don’t understand the mystery of
Seventy times seven

How many times
Have You wept from the anguish of all my shame
How many times
Have I nailed You up on the cross of pain
You bled from a broken heart
And I was to blame
Seventy times seven
Over and over again
Seventy times seven
Lord You know just how hard I have tried
Seventy times seven
Gotta see that I’m hurting inside
Seventy times seven
Don’t You know that my pride is at stake
Seventy times seven
So tell me how much one should take
Seventy times seven

Seventy times seven

Seventy times seven

TWO FOR TUESDAY

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

Alice’s Restaurant
Arlo Guthrie
You can get anything you want
At Alice’s Restaurant
You can get anything you want
At Alice’s Restaurant
Walk right in
It’s around the back
Just a half a mile
From the railroad track
You can get anything you want
At Alice’s Restaurant

NOTE: Be assured that there is more to this song than just what I have included here. For he is not repeating the same chorus for 22 minutes, give or take several seconds. Ah, but the rest of it is a narrative, which I figured was too much to include. Granted, it may have more to do with laziness than anything else, but I’m going to stick with not typing it all out as being an editorial decision. Nonetheless, I hope you will want to listen to it all. If you haven’t heard it before, you are in for a real treat, and if you have heard it before, you already know what a treat this “song” is.

When A Soldier Makes It Home
Arlo Guthrie
Halfway around the world tonight
In a strange and foreign land
A soldier packs his memories
As he leaves Afghanistan
And back home they don’t know too much
There’s just no way to tell
I guess you had to be there
For to know that war was hell

And there won’t be any victory parades
For those that’s coming back
They’ll fly them in at midnight
And unload the body sacks
And the living will be walking down
A long and lonely road
Because nobody seems to care these days
When a soldier makes it home

They’ll say it wasn’t easy
Just another job well done
As the government in Kabul falls
To the sounds of rebel guns
And the faces of the comrades
Being blown out of the sky
Leaves you bitter with the feeling
That they didn’t have to die

And there won’t be any victory parades
For those that’s coming back
They’ll fly them in at midnight
And unload the body sacks
And the living will be walking down
A long and lonely road
Because nobody seems to care these days
When a soldier makes it home

Halfway around the world tonight
In a strange and foreign land
A soldier unpacks memories
That he saved from Vietnam
Back home they didn’t know too much
There was just no way to tell
I guess you had to be there
For to know that war was Hell

And there wasn’t any big parades
For those that made it back
They flew them in at midnight
And unloaded all the sacks
And the living were left walking down
A long and lonely road
Because nobody seemed to care back then
When a soldier made it home

The night is coming quickly
And the stars are on their way
As I stare into the evening
Looking for the words to say
That I saw the lonely soldier
Just a boy that’s far from home
And I saw that I was just like him
While upon this earth I roam

And there may not be any big parades
If I ever make it back
As I come home undercover
Through a world that can’t keep track
Of the heroes who have fallen
Let alone the ones who won’t
Which is why nobody seems to care
When a soldier makes it home
