Grey Lives Mattered

There was world-side outrage over the Taliban destroying two gigantic [Buddhist statues] that stood as significant pieces of the region's history and ancient culture. Aside from that, their artistic value was priceless. It was the same in regards to ISIS looting and destroying priceless artifacts of the ancient Assyrian Empire in [Iraq and Syria].

Yes, it is the way of this world that the victors reap the spoils and despoil the treasurers of the vanquished. Many Protestant churches were burned while the Catholics held power in Britain a few hundred years ago. The Protestants returned the favor when they came out on top. Does this make it right?

Please understand that I am not a Klansman, Neo-Nazi or white supremacist in any way, shape or form. In fact, I despise everything those organizations stand for. Nonetheless, I think it is an absolute shame that unbridled political correctness is effecting the destruction of Confederate memorials in this country.

What's next? Do we rename the United States military installations named for Confederate war heroes? [Fort Benning] in Georgia was named after Confederate Brig. General Henry Benning. [Fort Bragg] in North Carolina was named after Confederate General Braxton Bragg. [Fort Gordon] in Georgia was named after Confederate Lt. General John Brown Gordon. [Fort A.P. Hill] in Virginia was named after Confederate Lt. General A.P. Hill. [Fort Hood] in Texas was named after Confederate General John Bell Hood. [Fort Lee] in Virginia was named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee. [Fort Pickett] in Virginia was named after Confederate Major General George Pickett. [Fort Polk] in Louisiana was named after Confederate Lt. General Leonidas Polk. [Fort rucker] in Alabama was named after Confederate Colonel Edmund Rucker.

Should we level the Washington and Jefferson memorials in Washington, D.C. because they owned slaves? The White House was mostly built by slaves. So, it has to be razed—right?

On the same note, how about doing away with the Ford Motor Company and all of its affiliates? After all, [Henry Ford] was right in there with Adolph Hitler when it came to antisemitism.

Come to think of it, should not all traces of the Holocaust be completely removed because of how offensive they may be to some in one way or another if political correctness is to be followed wherever it may lead? Be assured that there is great wisdom in having vestiges of even some very dark times in full view of future generations in the hope that they are not repeated.

  1. As you probably realize, Jerry, it really isn't offense that causes them to want to destroy things. They want to destroy the entire society and are simply starting with the easiest things first.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Gorges!!! Yes, and it will happen soon enough. I hope that it will not be until after our sentences in this prison of planet are fully served, but I have no assurances from our Heavenly Father on the matter. He keeps saying that all will be as it should be in the end, though. This should be more than enough assurance for us all.

  2. It's all very senseless. Right or wrong it's part of history and removing statues or anything else es not change history.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Anonymous!!! Clearly stated. I called Amarillo home for a time. The southern part of Amarillo is in Randall County, which was named after Confederate Brig. General Horace Randal.

  5. i believe it to be utterly shameful to destroy anything of our past, our history, what happened, happened, you cannot think you can re-write the past but destroying something??? it appears they are trying...... Hallo Jerry, it is wonderful to see you again *smiles*

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Shadow!!! Considering the fact that the vast majority of the younger generations have no interest in history and have no idea what those statues are memorializing, what harm would they be really doing, anyway?

  6. I agree that people tend to take things too far in the name of political correctness. But a lot of different people label opinions that they don't like as "politically incorrect" in the hopes of shutting up the other side, whatever that "other side" may be. It's not just the liberals who do this, as many would have you believe.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Silver Fox!!! I hear you, and I suppose a clear definition of just what political-correctness really is would be helpful. The trouble is that it seems to be in the eye of the accuser, which is what I think you are addressing.

Speaking of such, what do you think about the current push to rename Yawkey Way up there near Fenway? Political-correctness run amok? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/red-sox-fenway-robinson_us_5995f7f2e4b0e8cc855c466b

    2. Wow, Jerry, I didn't even know about that controversy, and Boston's only fifty miles away from me. Tom Yawkey and his wife were responsible for about half a billion dollars donated or raised by them over the years -- to people of numerous colors and creeds -- but I guess that's not enough for some people.

  7. How far will this go? Starting with removing street signs to renaming schools to tearing down monuments to ??? what next. Political correctness is rampant, and seem to be ramping up.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Susan!!! Alas, I keep hoping that it will not get really bad until after our (baby-boomers) sentence in this prison of a world comes to an end, but it is looking more and more like it will get much, much worse much, much sooner than later. I do not know to what extent, but I can imagine political correctness wrenching the perceptions of younger generations back and forth like conflicting scientific studies now dictate what is and is not healthy to eat from month to month.
