This weekly series
will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby
little hands on (so to speak). Now, each
one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only
as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered. For I just cannot bring myself to rate some
higher than others. So, this will not be
a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t
matter. Besides, with no countdown, this
could go on forever and ever! Oh, and
despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can
be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to make. I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Honky-Tonk Woman
The Rolling Stones
I met a
Gin-soaked bar-room
queen
In Memphis
She tried
To take me upstairs
For a ride
She had to
Heave me right
across
Her shoulder
‘Cause I just can’t
seem to
Drink you
Off my mind
It’s the
Honky-
Tonk
Women
Gimme
Gimme
Gimme
The honky-tonk
blues
I laid a
Divorcee
In New York City
I had to
Put up some kind
Of a fight
The lady
Then she covered me
With roses
She blew my nose
And then she
Blew my mind
It’s the
Honky-
Tonk
Women
Gimme
Gimme
Gimme
The honky-tonk
blues
Yeah
It’s the
Honky-
Tonk
Women
Gimme
Gimme
Gimme
The honky-tonk
blues
Yeah
It’s the
Honky-
Tonk
Women
Gimme
Gimme
Gimme
The honky-tonk
blues
Can’t You See
The Marshall Tucker
Band
Gonna take a
freight train
Down at the station
Lord
I don't care
Where it goes
Gonna climb a
mountain
The highest
mountain
Gonna jump off
Ain't nobody gonna
know
Can't you see
Whoa can't you see
What that woman
Lord
She been doin’ to
me
Can't you see
Can't you see
What that woman
She been doin’ to
me
I'm gonna find me
A hole in the wall
I'm gonna crawl
inside
And die
Come a later now
A mean ol' woman
Lord
Never told me
Good-bye
Can't you see
Whoa can't you see
What that woman
Lord
She been doin’ to
me
Can't you see
Can't you see
What that woman
Lord
She been doin’ to
me
I'm gonna buy me a
ticket now
As far as I can
Ain't a never comin’
back
Ride me a southbound
All the way to
Georgia now
‘Til the train
A run out of track
Can't you see
Whoa can't you see
What that woman
Lord
She been doin’ to
me
Can't you see
Can't you see
What that woman
She been doin’ to
me
Oh Lord
Can't you see
Whoa can't you see
What that woman
Lord
She been doin’ to
me
Can't you see
Whoa can't you see
What that woman
She been doin’ to
me
Can't you see
Oh she’s such a
Can't you see
Crazy Lady
What that woman
What that woman
She been doin’ to
me
Can't you see
Lord I can’t stand
it
Can't you see
What that woman
She been doin’ to
me
Can't you see
I’m gonna take a
freight train
Can't you see
Down at the station
Lord
What that woman
Ain’t a never comin’
back
She been doin’ to
me
Can't you see
Gonna ride me a
southbound
Can't you see
All the way to
Georgia Lord
What that woman
‘Til the train a run
out of track
She been doin’ to
me
Oh Lord

I love Marshall Tucker...I have a couple of their CDs and cassettes.
ReplyDeletemy less than exquisite musical taste doesn't really care for either one of these songs....lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! The one album I had that might be considered valuable by collectors was Marshall Tucker's Greatest Hits album on the Cassiopeia label. I special-ordered it from a record shop in Amarillo in 1985, and when I left to be on a harvest crew in 1986, I left it with a good friend, who cherished the record as much as I did, for safekeeping until I returned home. When I did return to Amarillo, I found out that he had moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and all of the efforts to get back in touch with him failed. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! Alas, there will not be much bubble-gum pop and easy listening in this series. (LOL?)
ReplyDeleteTop Stones track!
