James Taylor vs. Richie Havens

Fire and Rain
James Taylor
Just yesterday morning
They let me know you were gone
Suzanne
The plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning
And I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire
And I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching
And my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

Oh I've seen fire
And I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Been walking my mind
To an easy time
My back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows
It'll turn your head around
Well there's hours of time
On the telephone line
To talk about things to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines
In pieces on the ground

Oh I've seen fire
And I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you somehow
One more time
Again now
Thought I'd see you one more time again
There's just a few things coming my way
This time around
Now
I thought I'd see you
I thought I'd see you
Fire and rain

Fire and Rain
Richie Havens
Just yesterday morning
They let me know you were gone
Suzanne the plans they made
Put an end to you
I walked out this morning
And I wrote down this song
Now I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire
And I've seen rain
I've seen sunny skies that I thought would never ends
I've seen lonely times when I could not find my friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

You’ve got to look down upon me Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've got to see me through another day
My body's achin’
And my time is at hand
And I know I won't make it any other way

Oh I've seen fire
And I've seen rain
I've seen sunny skies that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find my friends
But I always knew that I'd see you again
But I always knew I’d see you again

Been walking my mind
To an easy time
My back turned to the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows
It'll turn your head around
We waste hours of time
Speaking of things to come
While fine dreams and groovy machines
And young people lay broken on the ground

Oh I've seen fire
And I've seen rain
I've seen sunny skies that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find my friends
But I always knew that I would see you again
I always knew that I’d see you again
I always knew
That I’d see you
Again
And again
And again

  1. There is only so much of this that I can take - what is with the James Taylor obsession? Didn't even play that one. The Ritchie Havens one I skipped through - he was hardly the world's best guitarist but he certainly sings better than the other guy.

  4. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! I am really sorry you had trouble. I just tried both of them, and they played just fine for me. Of course, I am indeed "special."

  5. Taylor is OK and more would be good.
Havens is dead and it shows.

  6. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! Would it make any difference if Havens was a futbol fan?
