Come Monday...Tumblr.

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

I have been running across of few [tumblr.] sites while adding to the list for a future [Sites To See], and I am wondering why any “regular” people would want to make the switch.  For if the fairly new blogging platform really does make it easier for some sort of commercial enterprise to get what they have to offer out there on Facebook, Twitter, smart phone apps and whatever else may become the next big thing, I can see where it would have its advantages, but I am yet to find where one can simply leave a comment.

Yes, with more and more businesses becoming more and more automated—especially online, it is highly unlikely that a comment would actually be read by someone who could actually respond.  Therefore, most no longer bother, but for a regular person, there isn’t a better way of gaining a following than personally responding to comments.

Alas, there are considerably more than a few “regular people” out there in the blogosphere, who evidently don’t care about interacting with their readers, which has been a source of great irritation for me.  Yeah, I suppose I shouldn’t care, but it really does make me mad (in every sense of the word).

Yep, that’s about all I have time for at this time.  Please refer to [Didley Squat] to find out why.  However, be assured that I will make time to respond to any comments left.

  1. I don't think tumblr was meant to be a blogging platform (like Blogger or Wordpress). I think the intent was it to be more like twitter or facebook - but more expansive, a way to "share" passing thoughts or photos or video that catch a person's attention. Obviously you can write more than on twitter and have it more personalized than Facebook. I haven't seen a tumblr page yet - I remember signing up for an account when it came out and then not knowing what to do with it. I canceled that account and I am about to open another. Sometimes I have random thoughts that aren't a blog post or things I want to say that might offend some of my regular readers, and I don't really want to do that. It was my original understanding that tumblr was to be more about photos and such than text.

The of course there is pinterest - a concept that I do not understand at all.

Everything seems to be about "sharing", following and being followed. Except that the sharing is self-involved. It doesn't seem to encourage an exchange of ideas or opinions - it's sharing along the lines of "Look at me!".

I agree about comments tho - If someone says something with real content then it should be responded to.

  2. don't know a think about tumblr but then I don't have time for all these new sites coming out. My sister keeps sending me invitations to every new site she joins (and I think she joins them all) I finally just started ignoring them

  3. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! Methinks your, "Look at me!," observation explains tumblr. and many of the other things quite well.

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! Yeah, I have also been suckered into signing up for many things that my technically-challenged mindset didn't appreciate as much as I was told that I should.

Since the Blogger spam filter has been found sorely lacking lately, I will start moderating comments. Be assured that I am only interested in deleting spam. So, if you feel a need to take me to task over something—even anonymously, go ahead and let 'er rip, and I will publish it as soon as I can.
