In the wake of the great tragedy down in [Tucson], a good listen to what is being conveyed through this song seems most appropriate. For more of the same is surely coming unless a miraculous change of many a heart on both sides of the current political divide in this country takes place. Please, don’t let the appearance of the group who originally sung it get in the way of the message.

One Tin Soldier
Coven
Listen children to a story
That was written long ago
‘Bout a kingdom on a mountain
And the valley folk below
On the mountain was a treasure
Buried deep beneath a stone
And the valley people swore
They’d have it for their very own
Go ahead and hate your neighbor
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of Heaven
You can justify it in the end
There won’t be any trumpets blowin’
Come the Judgment Day
On the bloody morning after
Oooh oooh
One tin soldier rides away
So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill
Asking for the buried treasure
Tons of gold for which they’d kill
Came an answer from the kingdom
With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain
All the riches buried there
Now the valley cried with anger
Mount your horses
Draw your swords
And they killed the mountain people
So they won their just reward
Now they stood beside the treasure
On the mountain dark and red
Turn the stone and looked beneath it
Peace on Earth
Was all it said
Go ahead and hate your neighbor
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of Heaven
You can justify it in the end
There won’t be any trumpets blowin’
Come the Judgment Day
On the bloody morning after
Oooh oooh
One tin soldier rides away
Go ahead and hate your neighbor
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of Heaven
You can justify it in the end
There won’t be any trumpets blowin’
Come the Judgment Day
On the bloody morning after
Oooh oooh
One tin soldier rides away
Lyrics From: [STLyrics]
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

This song has resonated for me lyrically since the day it was released...Yep, I am a bit old.
ReplyDeleteWell posted, I wish I had though of it for this time.
Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Vixen!!! Yeah, I was also around when it first came out, and both the song and the movie made quite an impression upon me.
ReplyDeleteMuch to my chagrin, however, I did backslide considerably in a political sense. For I was faithful follower of Rush Limbaugh (and the like) for a number of years, but our Heavenly Father has delivered me from that delusion.
Nonetheless, I hope the other side doesn't insist upon taking it too far. For I am a staunch supporter of a responsible individual's right to possess firearms, and I can see nothing good coming from trying to take that right away.
I have always loved this song ever since I first heard it when I saw the movie so many years ago. I haven't heard this one in years.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! One would think that it would be in heavy rotation on classic rock and oldies stations--at least!
ReplyDeletethis song never made such sense. I remember it from the vietnam era and I thought it made sense then. good choice Fishhawk
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear BadGal!!! Be assured that this is another time where it should be obvious that I am only publishing what I am given to. For I am really not all that naturally astute.
