Sympathy For The Devil
The Rolling Stones
Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
I’ve been around for a long long year
Stole many a man’s soul and faith
And I was around when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
Ah yeah
But what’s puzzling you
Is just the nature of my game
I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general’s rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
Ah yeah
What’s puzzling you
Is just the nature of my game
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out
Who killed the Kennedys
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name
Ah yeah
But what’s puzzling you
Is just the nature of my game
Ah yeah
Get down with it
Yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name
Ah yeah
But what’s confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners are saints
As heads is tails just called me Lucifer
‘Cause I’m in need of some restraint
So if you meet me have some courtesy
Have some sympathy and some taste
Use all your well learned politics
Or I’ll lay your soul to waste
Yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name
Ah yeah
But what’s puzzling you
Is just the nature of my game
Ah yeah
Get down with it
Woohoo
All right
Woohoo
Woohoo
All right
Woohoo
All right
All right
All right
All right
All right
Woohoo
Woohoo
Woohoo
Ah yeah
Woohoohoo
Ah yeah
Ah yeah
Woohoo
Woohoo
Ah yeah
All right
All right
Woo
Woo
Woo
Oh yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Ah yeah
Woo
Woo
All right
All right
All right
All right
Woo
All right
Ah
Ah yeah
Tell me baby
What’s my name
Tell me baby
Tell me baby
What’s my name
Tell me sweety
What’s my name
Woohoohoo
Ah yeah
Woohoohoo
Ah
Ah yeah
Ah yeah
Woohoo
Ah yeah
Ah yeah
Ah yeah
Yeah
Yeah
All right
Tell my baby
What’s my name
What’s my name
I want you to tell me baby
What’s my name
I want you to tell me sweety
What’s my name
Woohoohoo
Woohoo
Ah yeah
All right
Back to ya honey
What’s my name
What’s my name
Oh tell me baby

You Can’t Always Get What You Want
The Rolling Stones
I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was a footloose man
Now you can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes
You’ll find
You’ll get what you need
I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was a footloose man
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes
You might find
You get what you need
Ah yeah
I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singin’ we’re gonna vent our frustration
If you don’t we’re gonna blow a fifty amp fuse
Sing it to me
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes
Well you just might find
You get what you need
Ah yeah
Ah yeah
So I want to the Chelsea Drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standin’ in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor cherry red
I sing this song to Mr. Jimmy
And he said one word to me and that was dead
I said to him
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if your try sometimes
You just might find
You get what you need
You get what you need
Yeah
All right
Ah yeah
I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes
You just might find
You just might find
You get what you need
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes
You just might find
You just might find
You get what you need

The first song was quite perceptive of them in some ways.
ReplyDeleteIt makes one wonder just who the true author of that song really was--doesn't it? Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I just can't help myself. I have always loved the Stones, especially these two songs. If there are subliminal messages, I didn't get them. I would just find myself dancing around the house whenever I heard these songs. Good thing no one was looking!
ReplyDeleteI have listened to these songs all my life and never really listened to the words. Shame on me! Thanks for bringing them to my attention and I will start paying closer attention from now on.
ReplyDeleteFriends 4 Life!
No, there are no subliminal messages in these songs, my dear Cher. That is, at least not any that I have been made aware of. The thing is that "Sympathy For The Devil" speaks very clearly about his active participation in our daily lives, and the title of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" hits me squarely between the eyes because of how much I have wanted that I have not been allowed to get. (We often argue about what I need. Of course, He always wins.) Thanks for stopping by again!!!
ReplyDeleteBe assured that I have been guilty of the same thing, my dear Eddie. For there have been many a favorite song of mine that I had no idea what was really being sung until our Heavenly Father opened my ears to hear it. Thanks for stopping by!!!
ReplyDeleteSympathy For The Devil has always been one of my favorites by The Stones.
ReplyDeleteIt is also one song that is greatly misunderstood if someone only sees the title and never listens to the lyrics.
In my opinion, it makes a very powerful statement about the devil and the power he has in this world.
Thanks for posting the lyrics. You just never know who may see them and realize just exactly what this song is truly about!!
Ye cannae beat a bit o' the Stones!
ReplyDeleteAlthough Mick Jagger must be nearly as old as Adullamite.
I realize that it sound absolutely insane, my dear Jackie, but there are times when I do feel sympathy for the devil. For what has happened to him seems so unfair (naturally-speaking, of course), and then he is allowed to mess with me some more and that is the end of that. Thanks for stopping by again!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have touched upon an interesting bit of information, my dear Mike. For it is my understanding that the name of the band came about while Mick, Keith and Adullamite were rolling some stones down a hillside at some mastodons way back when. Thanks for stopping by again!!!
ReplyDeleteCan I just indicate that Mike was the one rolling stones with Jagger. Well Jagger was actually throwing them - at him!
ReplyDeleteI stand corrected, my dear Adullamite. Thank you for coming forth with your eye-witness account.
