TWO FOR TUESDAY

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

Fire On The Mountain
The Marshall Tucker Band
Took my family away from my
Carolina home
Had dreams about the West
And started to roam
Six long months on a
Dust covered trail
They say Heaven’s at the end
But so far it’s been Hell

And there’s
Fire on the mountain
Lightnin’ in the air
Gold in them hills
And it’s waitin’ for me there

We were diggin’ and siftin’
From five to five
Sellin’ everything we found
Just to stay alive
Gold flowed free
Like the whiskey in the bars
Sinnin’ was the big thing Lord
And Satan was His star

And there’s
Fire on the mountain
Lightnin’ in the air
Gold in them hills
And it’s waitin’ for me there

Dance hall girls were the
Evenin’ treat
Empty cartridges and blood lie in
The gutters of the street
Men were shot down
For the sake of fun
Or just to hear the noise
Of their forty-four guns

And there’s
Fire on the mountain
Lightnin’ in the air
Gold in them hills
And it’s waitin’ for me there

Now my widow
She weeps by my grave
Tears flow free for her man
She couldn’t save
Shot down in cold blood
By a gun that carried fame
All for a useless and no good
Worthless claim

And there’s
Fire on the mountain
Lightnin’ in the air
Gold in them hills
And it’s waitin’ for me there
Fire on the mountain
Lightin’ in the air
Gold in them hills
And it’s waitin’ for me there
Waitin’ for me there

Can’t You See
The Marshall Tucker Band
Gonna take a freight train
Down at the station Lord
I don’t care
Where it goes
Gonna climb a mountain
The highest mountain Lord
Jump off
Ain’t nobody gonna know

Can’t you see
Oh Lord can’t you see
What that woman
Lord she’s been doin’ to me
Can’t you see
Can’t you see
What that woman
Oh she’s been doin’ to me

I’m gonna find me
A hole in the wall
I’m gonna crawl inside
And die
‘Cause my lady now
A mean ol’ woman Lord
Never even told me goodbye

Can’t you see
Oh Lord can’t you see
What that woman Lord
Oh she’s been doin’ to me
Can’t you see
Can’t you see
What that woman Lord
Oh she’s been doin’ to me

Gonna buy a ticket
As far as I can
I ain’t a-never
Comin’ back
Gonna take that freight train
And I’m goin’ to Washington
I ain’t never
Comin’ back

Can’t you see
Oh Lord can’t you see
What that woman
Oh she’s been doin’ to me
Can’t you see
Can’t you see
What that woman
Oh she’s been doin’ to me

Can’t you see
Well Lord can’t you see
What that woman
Oh she’s been doin’ to me
Can’t you see
Can’t you see
What that woman
Oh she’s been doin’ to me
Can’t you see
Oh Lord
Can’t you see
She’s a crazy lady
What that woman
Oh she’s been doing to me
Can’t you see
I don’t think I can stand it
Can’t you see
To last to tomorrow
What that woman
Oh she’s been doin’ to me
Can’t you see
Oh I’m gonna take a freight train
Can’t you see
Down at the station Lord
What that woman
Ain’t never
She’s been doin’ to me
Comin’ back
Can’t you see
Gonna ride me a southbound
Can’t you see
All the way to Georgia Lord
What that woman
‘Til the train
She’s been doing to me
It run outta track

  2. Deep south country? I rather enjoyed it, much better than some of the guff out nowadays.

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ryan!!! Actually, their kind of music was generally considered to be Southern Rock when they first burst onto the scene back in the early 70's, but Country Rock also fits. By either name, I consider this kind of music to be as good as it gets--with others being equal, but certainly not superior.

By the way, if you haven't caught wind of him yet, Adullamite is a fellow Scot. Of course, I wouldn't blame you even a wee bit if you would rather not acknowledge that in public. (Please don't say anything to him about this. For he can get awfully cranky--even for a Scot!)

  7. I've only heard a couple of their songs before but liked them. In our house anything that even remotely sounds country gets turned off. I like it, he hates it.

  8. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Roschelle!!! I'm glad you're not dead, and I hope you and your wonderful son are enjoying your new home.

  9. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Sandie!!! I'm glad you're not dead, too. Yeah, I suppose by the current standards, Marshall Tucker would most definitely be considered country. For they are playing songs on widely advertised "pure" country stations now that would've never been played in years past.

  10. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! Well, it's his loss. Tell Duke to go take a chunk out of his rear-end.
