Come Monday...Porn Spottts

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about, websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

I must admit that I am feeling rather idiotic. For while I was not paying nearly as much attention as I should have been to what was being displayed on the [Spottt] widget that I used to have on the sidebar to the left, ads for both soft and hardcore porn sites were being shown.

Yeah, I had seen some ads that had some very attractive ladies in some very provocative poses, but they were not any worse than what you could see in a [Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Issue]. So, I didn’t think much of it.

Then, I received an email last week from one of my regular visitors here, and I started paying a lot more attention to what was being displayed on Spottt widgets that I came across. Oh my, was I ever in for a shock. [Here] is just one of the sites that was being advertised through Spottt. Please, do not click on the link if you take offense to very explicit sexual content.

No, this may not be of any concern to many, but since I see a Spottt widget on many sites that are focused on so-called family-friendly content, I suspect that this news may be of great interest to quite a few. Of course, some may consider what is contained on porn sites to be all about being VERY friendly towards family members. There are two sides to every coin, you know.

The friend who first called my attention to the porn Spotts said that she had only noticed them late at night, and since we both live in the western hemisphere of this world, that would mean that they are being shown during the daytime in the other half. That is, unless they have them set-up to run late at night all over.

Alas, I really want to believe that Spottt may have been hacked, or taken over by someone else since I first signed-up with the ad service around a year ago. For they accidentally sent me a rejection notice for this blog because of it being judged to not be family-friendly enough.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I am sure that the rejection notice was accidentally sent. For they had already sent me notice of being approved, and then they sent me another email that apologized for accidentally sending the other one!

Anyway, the point that I am trying to make is that it seems highly unlikely that an outfit that is concerned with where their widgets are placed would approve of the kind of ads that are now being shown on them. On the other hand, my mom always said that I was awfully gullible.

  1. Gullible? You? Never!
I must admit I never look at the ads. However I did look once when considering finding ways to make money. They do slow the loading process however, and my ads rarely pay!

  2. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! Yeah, I am guilty of that myself, and after seeing that no one had clicked on my ad there in the entire time it had been displayed, it would appear that we are not the only ones. Do you think it might have helped if the osprey (a.k.a. fish hawk) had of been plucked?

  3. I don't think Spottts has been hacked. I tried to use it once and realized that it would be difficult to control the content. Even though there is a system do decline ads, their initial screening is so poor that I would have had to spend hours click through to decline triple X sites and I would have to do that regularly because so many were added to the system. It just didn't seem worth it, so I took the widget off my sites. Thanks for the great post!

  4. Unfortunately these traffic exchange places have a very hard time controlling their censorship which has proven itself to me through using Spott as this is the second time I have removed it for similar reasons.

So many tanks to the writer of this post who kindly took the time to relay the message to me about the porn being advertised on my widget.

It is a nice comfort to know that their are so many nice people watching our backs.

  5. I had a Spott widget up for several months but I started noticing some ads that I wasn't comfortable with. I took it down, oh, 2-3 months ago. Don't know what's going on but I didn't want to advertise porn of any sort on my blog.

  6. Thanks for the heads up about Spottt... seems like I tried out this widget awhile ago but was unhappy that you didn't get much control over the ads, like EC.

  7. I used spottt for then my 5 blogs about a year ago. At that time some very suggestive pornographic ads suddenly started appearing so this is not a new thing with them. I pulled their widget from my blogs immediately. If you check your stats spottt does not bring in much in the way of traffic but it can go a long way towards hurting the reputation of your blog.

  8. I find it very hard to believe that you could be considered gullible but then I've been wrong before. I've actually never heard of Spotts, I guess I don't get out much.

  9. Oops, well you don't know what you don't know.I never noticed them.
    Take Care,

  10. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Accessory Lady!!! You are not the first person to say that they have had a problem with ads on Spottt before, which makes me wonder just how many porn Spottts were shown here before I stuck my head out from under the covers. No, I really don't want to know.

  11. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Dorothy!!! I actually have a great deal of trouble with censorship. For I believe that all should be placed out in the open, and I know that this is what our Heavenly Father wants. Nonetheless, there is a time and place for such, and very young children should never see the "stuff" on many of those sites.

  12. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Buggys!!! As I said to Dorothy, there is a time and place for everything, and your blog is most definitely not the sort of place where porn ads should be displayed.

  13. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Rob!!! I don't remember being given any option to control the kinds of ads that would be shown on the Spottt widget, and when I went to check for such before I removed it, I couldn't find it.

  14. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Mom!!! My mom also used to say that I could sure be stupid for someone so smart. I really hate it when she's right about stuff like that.

  15. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! You not getting out much may have a lot to do with where you live. For with there being over 10 feet of snow covering the ground for 10 months of the year, and a bottomless mud bog forming after the snow melts off, it would be rather hard to get out at all. Of course, if you ever want to know something, just ask Duke. For he doesn't let anything get in his way.

  16. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Janet!!! Thank you also for trying to make me feel better about being so ignorant. Whoa, that doesn't sound quite right.
