Come Monday...Treason

Come Monday…Treason
“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of (or commentary about) websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

This should be a rant of epic proportions, but since I have been feeling especially poorly the past couple of weeks, I do not have the strength to let loose with much more than a whimper.  In fact, even my(?) voice in my head is speaking in rather subdued tones.

Anyway, it was pointed out to me that one topic has been largely ignored as both sides of our current federal budget woes cuss and fuss amongst themselves, which is that any action that threatens our ability to pay our national debts is treasonous (plain and simple).  For the only real difference between the American dollar and the Mexican peso right now is how much confidence other nations still have in the United States of America as a whole.

Okay, I must admit that I probably don’t have a clue about what I am trying to convey here, but it makes sense to me.  For what currency represents is a recognized amount of value between two parties in a business transaction.  In other words, they are kinda like I.O.U.s, and back when the American dollar was based upon the gold standard, having a dollar bill meant that you had a dollar’s worth of gold stored somewhere.  Now that currencies are no longer based upon the gold standard, the implied value of an American dollar is based upon the strength of the American economy, along with the national political will to deal with everyone fairly, which would be to have people in positions of power who are honestly trying to do the right thing—even when it might cost us.

Yes, lack of confidence in a government can cause a country to have to pay more in interest for funds borrowed from other countries, but despite the nonsense continually spewed by hardcore fiscal conservatives, that should not be of much concern to us at this time.  In fact, the vast majority of our national debt is owed to ourselves through the issuing of dollars by the Federal Reserve, and it is in regards to how much our dollar is valued by others that we should be starting to become quite worried about.

Yeah, there were about 10,000 points I just skipped over in a rather awkward manner, but I think you should be getting it.  For with there no longer having to be a dollar’s worth of gold for every paper dollar issued, the Federal Reserve can just print up a few trillion dollars over the weekend to have on hand for the start of business, Monday morning.  Now, if bankers in Germany or Britain decide that it is not worth the paper that it was supposedly printed on…?  Come to think of it, I wonder how much is on business ledgers now that does not even have a paper dollar (or a metal coin) to cover it?

Alas, I keep hoping that I will be allowed to physically die before seeing the actual demise of America.  Yeah, it can be argued that we have weathered stronger storms than this before, but the character of our people has changed to where far too many really don’t care if the baby gets thrown out with the bathwater.  Oh, and then there are the millions who have never cared to know about the baby to begin with.

If you don’t believe me, just listen to volleys being launched by people we elected to represent us in Congress (along with the rest of the D.C. ninnies, of course).  For the hardcore fiscal conservatives really would rather see America crumble than let the liberals win while the liberals keep wailing about something needing to be done to help those in need without giving much thought at all about how it could be done the right way, which would certainly take the fire out of the conservatives rhetoric in the eyes of us stuck in the middle.

No, I have not been told by our Heavenly Father that the demise of the United States of America is imminent, but it has been made clear to me that we are closer than ever before.  For we now have two whole generations coming along without any sense of shame.  You see, self-esteem does not allow for that, and our Heavenly Father is going to give us more of a taste of just how much is good about us apart from Him.

  3. The only ray of hope that I see is the rapidly growing Homeschool movement--
It will take awhile for those students to enter the 'fray' in number significant to make a difference--

  4. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! All part of us giving our Heavenly Father the full benefit of our considerable doubts, I suppose, but it sure seems like far too many love it this way.

  5. Thanks for stopping by, my dear TWG!! Yeah, and I just saw a headline that said that the President would be willing to agree to another funding extension, which would just stretch this out some more. Sigh.

  6. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Carol!!! I hope it is different with your homeschoolers, but the ones around here are generally the strongest supporters of those who would rather see America crumble than let the liberals win. Alas, has it not become 1860 all over again?

  8. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! Yeah, not much has changed there, but there seems to be more of them who do not care who knows about it theses days. In fact, some even act plumb entitled to all they can get while the gettin' is good!

  9. It is a very worrying state of affairs. I can't help wonder, though...if all those countries that the US loaned money to over the years, and who never have repaid their loans, paid up, it would help the States get out of this present mess!

The US has financially helped a lot of countries through the years...perhaps it's time to repay the debt!

I hope at the time of my writing this, you are feeling 100% better, Jerry. :)

  10. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! After being raised as a hardcore conservative in every sense of the word, I grew up hearing all about all of the money we gave away to others over the years. As it turned out, the total amount is a pittance in comparison to the proposed budget for Obamacare.

Of course, there is no time for closely examining just how such a huge program should be run when there are so many in such desperate need, which just give those who do not want the government helping anyone for any reason more stones to throw. Sigh.
