CCR vs. Ike & Tina Turner

Proud Mary
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Left a good job in the city
Workin’ for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleepin’
Worryin’ ‘bout the way things might have been

Big wheel keep on turnin’
Proud Mary keep on burnin’
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river

Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis
Pumped a lot of pain down in New Orleans
But I never saw the good side of the city
‘Til I hitched a ride on a river boat queen

Big wheel keep on turnin’
Proud Mary keep on burnin’
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river

Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river

If you come down to the river
Bet you gonna find some people who live
You don’t have to worry ‘cause you have no money
People on the river are happy to give

Big wheel keep on turnin’
Proud Mary keep on burnin’
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river

Proud Mary
Ike & Tina Turner
Left a good job down in the city
Workin’ for the man every night and day
But I never lost one minute of sleepin’
Worried ‘bout the way things might might have been

Big wheel keep on turnin’ Lord
Proud Mary keep on burnin’
And we’re rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river
Say we’re rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river

I left a good job in the city
Workin’ for the man every night and day
But I never lost one minute of sleepin’
Worried ‘bout the way things might have been

Big wheel keep on turnin’
Proud Mary keep on burnin’
And we’re rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ down
Rollin’ on the river
Rollin’ on the river

Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis
Pumped a lot of pain down in New Orleans
But I never saw the good side of the city
‘Til I hitched a ride on the river boat queen

You know that big wheel keep on turnin’
And the Proud Mary keep on burnin’
Say we’re rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ yeah
Rollin’ down
Rollin’ on the river
Rollin’ on the river
I say we’re rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ down
Rollin’ on the river
Rollin’ on the river

Now I left a good job in the city
Workin’ for the man every night and day
But I never lost one minute of sleepin’
Worried ‘bout the way things might have been

Big wheel keep on turnin’
Turnin’
Proud Mary keep on burnin’
Burnin’
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river
I say we’re rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river

Now I cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis
And I pumped a lot of pain down in New Orleans
But I never saw the good side of the city
‘Til I hitched a ride on the river boat queen

Big wheel keep on turnin’
Turnin’
Proud Mary keep on burnin’
Burnin’
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river

Hey

Well all-right

Yeah
Yeah
Yeah

Now if you come down to the river
Bet you gonna find some people who live
You don’t have to worry if you don’t have no money
People on the river are happy to give

Big wheel keep on turnin’
Turnin’
Proud Mary keep on burnin’
Burnin’
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river
You better believe that we’re
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river
All-right
Rollin’
Rollin’
Rollin’ on the river

Rollin’ on the river

  2. I love both versions, so it is hard to decide. However, Tina's is the classic. I can't decide.

  3. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! It is rather eerie hearing her say that they usually do things rough, considering all of domestic abuse that came out later on.

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! Well, John and CCR can take credit for the song, but the performance of it has to go to Ike & Tina. Can you imagine being near the stage while they are doing all of that?

  5. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Clueless!!! I was surprised to find that John Fogerty actually wrote the song. For I was thinking that it was Ike & Tina's.

  6. Dang, I love all their music, really but, no one can hold a candle to Tina Turner dancing on the stage.
Heck, I used to write for CNN (a Ted Turner Network) but, made the fatal mistake of saying I figured they was family; Ted and Tina. Well, now I write for somebody else. Hah !

FishHawk, you wouldn't fire me. Wouldja?

  7. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear RyukyuMike!!! Certainly not for a statement like that. I would think that Ted would have been flattered!
