Come Monday...Adventures In Bookmarking

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

When I first ventured forth into the great unknown of cyberspace, my vehicle of choice was Internet Explorer.  Well, it really wasn’t much of a choice.  For not only was cyberspace a complete mystery to me, how to get there was, as well.  That is, except for what came installed with Windows ME, which is what was installed on our first Dell in 2000.

While proceeding with great caution (utter terror, actually) each baby step along the way, I started to realize some of the wonders available, and one of them was the favorites option to Internet Explorer.  For instead of having to write down the URL’s to sites I wanted to see again, I could just add them to my favorites on the sidebar of the browser.  Later on, I “discovered” how to organize them into folders, and it was around then when I started compiling the list for the [Sites To See] series here.

Oh, but as they say, all good things must come to an end, and the beginning of this end came when I started having a lot of trouble opening some Entrecard sites through Internet Explorer 7 (I think).  So, I gathered up (so to speak) all of the courage that I could muster, and went about installing the Firefox browser.

I don’t remember which version of Firefox it was, but the difference between IE7 (I think) and Firefox was quite telling.  For all of the sites that wouldn’t load before, now came up with enough speed to startle me.

Soon after that, the Google toolbar for Firefox was brought to my attention, and I started bookmarking my Sites To See list instead of trying to add them to my IE favorites folders.  Oh yeah, life in cyberspace was becoming more and more comfortable.

No, we can’t be having too much of that—can we?  Therefore, after the 3,498th “new and improved” version of Firefox was introduced, the makers of the Google toolbar for Firefox probably just gave up.  In any event, the announcement for made that it would no longer work on Firefox, and my stress level returned to a familiar feel.

A few days later, I was shown a variation of the Google toolbar for Firefox, and even though things had to be done a little differently, it would work.  Back to feeling pretty good again.

Nope, it didn’t last.  For when I went to publish last weeks edition of Sites To See, I discovered that links would no longer open in a different window through the new Google toolbar, which meant having to go back and forth with the browser back button.

Oh, but wait—there’s more!  For not only was I having to go back and forth between sites, when going back to the bookmark list, it was like visiting the page at start of the session, which meant changing the view from the sites being listing according to when they were bookmarked to alphabetical.

Yeah, none of this may sound like any big deal to most, but if you have ever had a very painful wound, you know that even a puff of wind can make it hurt worse.  Such is my life in general.

Why haven’t I just went back to using the IE favorites?  Well, the problem with some sites not loading still exists, and I am relegated to having to stay with IE8 because IE9 and 10 will not work with Windows Vista.

What about Google Chrome?  There is no Google toolbar for it, and I am yet to be shown how to transfer all of my old bookmarks to what Chrome has to offer, short of one at a time.

Opera and Apple Safari for Windows?  Refer to the situation with Chrome.

Okay, what about going back to using an older version of Firefox?  Well, Blogger/Blogspot is all about being on the cutting edge.  So, it will not support a browser version older than the one previous to the newest version, which means that I cannot publish anything through IE8, neither.  Yeah, they (and I am talking about all of them here) really might be out to get me.

A Sunday Drive

Back during my childhood, our parents would often load up my brother and me after Sunday morning church services for a leisurely drive around where we lived.  Even though we were seeing mostly familiar sights, it was still good to see them, and this is why “A Sunday Drive” sounded about right for the name of a weekly series revisiting familiar sites that are well worth seeing again and again.  The link below the image is to the site itself, and the image is linked to the post it was first included in here.

Trib Updates

This is a weekly series that will include a brief summary of the latest articles that have been published on The Tribulation Times Herald-Exhorter.  Hopefully, this will encourage you to go check out some truly outstanding articles that have been published by a number of truly outstanding authors.  Moreover, I hope this will also encourage you to want to become a contributing member/author, as well.  The “Hear Ye!  Hear Ye!” site explanation near the top of the side-bar should answer many of your questions.  Yes, this series also included an “SOS! (Spam On Saturdays)”  segment before, but it just wasn’t working for me.  Therefore, that will be replaced by a republishing of one of the Trib articles.

[The Pastoral Role and Sex] has Lavender Darwin noticing that Michelle Williams got naked in My Life With Marilyn.

[Puritan View on Controlling Your Thoughts] has a podcast of a sermon that Lavender staunchly endorses.

[Lisa Shaw – When I] a video of a fairly good song provided by Lavender.

[Terrifying Stopping Place for LastFM!] goes to further prove that Lavender has never really gotten out much.

[“Time Restored, Captain”] has Lavender providing us with a video of what should have happened to the remake of the original Star Trek.

[Prayers that Route Demons and Fix Vasectomies and Tubal Ligations] is a semi-rant from you-know-who about you-know-what (and demons).

[Noise Off!!!] gives us some ideas on how to irritate Lavender (instead of the other way around).

[Midget Rudolph] another video from one of Lavender’s favorite characters.

I woke up one day last week with the first part of the chorus to the following song playing in my head.  Since I have not heard it through more conventional means in quite some time, there was little doubt in my mind about where it was coming from.

I then began to become quite concerned.  For I thought that the reason why He was playing this song for me was on account of not being responsive enough.  For there are times when I just act upon what He is telling me without there being any actual discussion between us taking place, but I now know that the song is meant for all who want to believe that He doesn’t want to actually talk to them.

No, most won’t get it, and if it is on account of our Heavenly Father not allowing and enabling them to yet, that’s okay.  Oh, but woe be it unto all who do, and just don’t want to accept what He wants them to know and understand.

We Don’t Talk Anymore
Cliff Richard
Used to think that life was sweet
Used to think we were so complete
I can’t believe you’d
Throw it away
Used to feel we had it made
Used to feel we could sail away
Can you imagine
How I feel today

Well it seems a long time ago
You were the lonely one
Now it comes to letting go
You are the only one
Do you know what you’ve done

It’s so funny
How we don’t talk anymore
It’s so funny
Why we don’t talk anymore
But it ain’t losing sleep
And I ain’t counting sheep
It’s so funny
How we don’t talk anymore

Oh
We don’t talk

Well it really doesn’t matter to me
I guess you’re leaving
Was meant to be
It’s down to you now
You wanna be free

Well I hope you know
Which way to go
You’re on your own again
Don’t come cryin’ to me
When you’re the lonely one
Remember what you’ve done

It’s so funny
How we don’t talk anymore
It’s so funny
Why we don’t talk anymore
But I ain’t losing sleep
And I ain’t counting sheep
Sheep
No no no
It’s so funny
How we don’t talk anymore

Oh
We don’t talk

Ooooooh
We don’t talk

No no no
I ain’t losing sleep
No I ain’t
Counting sheep
Sheep
No no no no

It’s so funny
How we don’t talk anymore
Anymore

Oooh

We don’t talk

Oooh
We don’t talk

Sites To See

The SOLE purpose of this weekly series is to call attention to sites that I think many would find most interesting—in one way or another.  Just to be clear, inclusion in this series is not necessarily meant as a recommendation, and I have included sites that are rather disturbing to me.  The link below each image is to the site itself, and each image is linked to the particular post from which it was taken when applicable.  Please, go see for yourself.

Del Shannon vs. The Traveling Wilburys

Runaway
Del Shannon
As I walk along
I wonder
A-what went wrong
With our love
A love that was so strong
And as I still walk on
I think of
The things we've done together
A-while our hearts were young

I'm a-walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin'
And I feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me
To end this misery
And I wonder
I wa-wa-wa-wa
Wonder
Why
A-why-why-why-why-why-why
She ran away
And I wonder
Where she will stay
My little runaway
A-run-run-run-run
Runaway

I'm a-walkin' in the rain
Tears are fallin'
And I feel the pain
Wishin' you were here by me
To end this misery
And I wonder
I wa-wa-wa-wa
Wonder
Why
A-why-why-why-why-why-why
She ran away
And I wonder
Where she will stay
My little runaway
A-run-run-run-run
Runaway
A-run-run-run-run
Runaway
