ATF: Black and Blue

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to make.  I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Black Betty

Whoa black Betty
Bambalam
Whoa black Betty
Bambalam
Black Betty had a child
Bambalam
The damn thing gone wild
Bambalam
She said
It weren't none of mine
Bambalam
The damn thing gone blind
Bambalam
I said
Oh black Betty
Bambalam
Whoa black Betty
Bambalam

Whoa black Betty
Bambalam
Whoa black Betty
Bambalam
She really gets me high
Bambalam
You know that's no lie
Bambalam
She's so rock steady
Bambalam
She's always ready
Bambalam
Whoa black Betty
Bambalam
Whoa black Betty
Bambalam

Get it

Whoa black Betty
Bambalam
Whoa black Betty
Bambalam
She's from Birmingham
Bambalam
Way down in Alabam
Bambalam
Well' she’s shakin' that thing
Bambalam
Boy she makes me sing
Bambalam
Whoa black Betty
Bambalam
Whoa black Betty
Bambalam

Blue On Black
Kenny Wayne Shepherd
Night
Falls
And I’m alone
Skin
Yeah chilled
Me to the bone
You
Turned
And
You ran
Oh yeah
Oh slipped
Right from my hand

Hey
Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on a shove
It don’t mean much
Joker on jack
Match on a fire
Cold on ice
A dead man’s touch
Whisper on a screen
Doesn’t change a thing
Don’t bring you back
Blue on black
Oh yeah
Blue on black

Blind
Oh
Now I see
Truth
Lies
And in between
A wrong
Can’t be undone
Oh slipped
From the tip of your tongue

Hey
Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on a shove
It don’t mean much
Joker on jack
Match on a fire
Cold on ice
A dead man’s touch
Whisper on a screen
Doesn’t change a thing
Doesn’t bring you back
Yeah yeah
Blue on black

Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on a shove
It don’t mean much
Joker on jack
Match on a fire
Cold on ice
A dead man’s touch
Whisper on a screen
Doesn’t change a thing
Doesn’t bring you back
Blue on black
Oh
Oh
Blue on black
Oh
Blue on black

Good, Bad and Ugly Ads

Since I have not been given much of a life, I watch an awful lot of television, which includes an awful lot of commercials.  Now, a “GOOD” ad is one that holds my attention and makes me want to at least learn more about the product or service it is for.  A “BAD” ad is one that quickly becomes nothing more than background noise when it cannot be skipped over.  “UGLY” ads are much worse.  For not only do they make we want to never see them again, they make me want to never have anything to do with the company that paid for them to be produced.  Of course, you may feel differently, but I sure wouldn’t say much about it around anyone with a lick of sense.  For I am, after all, an expert on such things—albeit only in my own mind!

GOOD

BAD

UGLY

TFT: War

Link: [War]

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world.  For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair while others will be quite obviously fervent rants of rebellion.  Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

The Cisco Kid

The Cisco Kid
Was a friend of mine
The Cisco Kid
Was a friend of mine

He drink whiskey
Poncho drink the wine
He drink whiskey

We met down on
The fort of Rio Grande
We met down on
The fort of Rio Grande
Eat the salted peanuts
Out of can
Eat the salted peanuts
Out the can
The outlaws had us pinned down
At the fort
The outlaws had us pinned down
At the fort
Cisco came in blastin'
Drinkin' port
Cisco came in blastin'
Drinkin' port

They rode the sunset
Horse was made of steel
They rode the sunset
Horse was made of steel
Chased a gringo
Last night through a field
Chased a gringo
Last night through a field

The Cisco Kid
Was a friend of mine

Why Can’t We Be Friends
War
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends

I ain’t seen you around
For a long long time
Yeah
I remembered you
When you’d drink my wine

Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends

I've seen you walking
Down in Chinatown
I called you
but you could not look around

Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends

I pay my money
To the welfare line
I’ve see you standing
In it every time

Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends

The color of your skin
Don't matter to me
Wow
As long as we
Can live in harmony

Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends

I'd kinda like to be
The President
Yeah
So I can show you
How your money's spent
Oh

Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends

Sometimes I don't
Speak bright
All right
But yet I know
What I'm talking about

Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends

I know you're working
For the C.I.A.
They wouldn't have you
In the mafia

Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends
Why can't we be friends

Come Monday...WhiteHeart Songs and Lyrics

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

My love affair with the music of [WhiteHeart] ignited the first time I heard [THE FLAME PASSES ON] coming through the speakers in my pick-up truck as I was headed north on MO 37 between Purdy and Monett in [Barry County, Missouri] while listening to [KADI] in 1993.  Since then, their music has helped me to [FIND A WAY] to keep going when quitting seemed to make much more sense, and I hope their music proves to be as much of a help to you.

That is the opening paragraph to the introduction of a new site, by the name of [WhiteHeart Songs andLyrics], that we launched over the course of a couple of days last week. It includes 118 of their songs, which I think is just about all of their officially recorded ones.

Be assured that I am not trying to profit off of their success, nor would I want to without being made sure of it being okay with the band and the various labels they have recorded under over the years.  In fact, I will not even include Google Adsense on the site.

After being unable to find the lyrics to many of their songs over the years, it became a dream of mine to make as many of them available online as I would be allowed and enabled to, and what started out as around 60 of their songs grew to the 118 I now have in my personal collection.  Of course, without being familiar with the song, the lyrics to it are often found lacking.  So, I [B-Tubed] them all in order to have an embeddable MP3 player for each one on the site, and I will be replacing the videos that are already in place on the various WhiteHeart Wednesdays that have been posted here in the past and on The Trib for the last several months.

One of the main reasons for that is on account of [EMI] wanting YouTube to block the playing of WhiteHeart songs from the [Emergency Broadcast album] for some reason.  One would think that the owner of the rights to a 16 year-old album would want all of the exposure to it as they could get in order to keep that cash register ringingbut who am I to question the wisdom of record label executives?

Anyway, the only thing I want is for as many as possible to be able enjoy as much of WhiteHeart’s music as possible.  Now, I love some of their songs much more than others, but I would not consider any of them as being not very good.  With their style ranging from a rather soft and more traditional form of contemporary Christian music to down’n’dirty blues and heavy metal anthems, I am quite sure that there is at least one song that you will have to listen to over and over again.

As I said (so to speak) earlier, WhiteHeart’s music has helped me to find a way to keep going when quitting seemed to make much more sense, and I sure needed some help with that before the new site was completed.  For after I had published what I had on a little less than half of the 118 songs, the Google/Blogger spam filter started wondering if I was a robot because of publishing too much too soon.  Yep, you got it, I had to successfully decipher a word verification puzzle for each and every post from then on.

Yeah, I have no doubt that some soulless minion in his cubical deep down in the catacombs under the Google campus is still laughing his tookis off over doing that to me after I have made such a fuss over their wonderful word verification spam prevention option.  In any event, I hope to see you over on the new site.

I’LL MEET YOU THERE
WhiteHeart
I feel the chill of autumn’s wind
Seasons changin’ once again
And every moment’s best
Still one moment less
We spend
Together my friend
I can't hold back these tears in my eyes
This time I won't even try
For time has come and gone
Now we must move on
I'll admit I don't know why

Now we must say good-bye
To find our road ahead
Destiny leads us on
To another place
But I'll meet you there someday
Oh oh
Whoa oh

We chase the future into past
Only to find that it never lasts
By the time it's gone
The pain is so strong
And yet
Oh listen my friend
Though we've lost what was before
Forever will bring us the chance once more
In that time we'll see
What was meant to be
A special moment
To cherish
For all of our lives

And we'll know in time
Why we must say good-bye
To find our road ahead
Destiny leads us on
To another place
Oh but I'll meet you there
From the lives we all leave behind
We find there's much more ahead
The Father will lead us on
To a better place
And I'll meet you there someday
I'll meet you there someday
I'll meet you there someday
Oh oh
Whoa
Oh oh

A Sunday Drive

Back during my childhood, our parents would often load up my brother and me after Sunday morning church services for a leisurely drive around where we lived.  Even though we were seeing mostly familiar sights, it was still good to see them, and this is why “A Sunday Drive” sounded about right for the name of a weekly series revisiting familiar sites that are well worth seeing again and again.  The link below the image is to the site itself, and the image is linked to the post it was first included in here.

ESPN Additions

Ironically, some of the best television commercials are for ESPN, and only air on ESPN.  Now, I do not know if these ads really are meant to add all the more to the viewing experience, but it works for me.
