Good, Bad and Ugly Ads

Since I have not been given much of a life, I watch an awful lot of television, which includes an awful lot of commercials.  Now, a “GOOD” ad is one that holds my attention and makes me want to at least learn more about the product or service it is for.  A “BAD” ad is one that quickly becomes nothing more than background noise when it cannot be skipped over.  “UGLY” ads are much worse.  For not only do they make we want to never see them again, they make me want to never have anything to do with the company that paid for them to be produced.  Of course, you may feel differently, but I sure wouldn’t say much about it around anyone with a lick of sense.  For I am, after all, an expert on such things—albeit only in my own mind!

TFT: The Supremes

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world.  For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair while others will be quite obviously fervent rants of rebellion.  Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

You Keep Me Hangin’ On
The Supremes
Set me free
Why don't you baby
Get out my life
Why don't you baby
'Cause you don't really love me
You just keep me hangin' on
You don't really need me
But you keep me hangin' on

Why do you keep a-comin’ around
Playin’ with my heart
Why don't you get out of my life
And let me make a new start
Let me get over you
The way you've gotten over me

Hey
Set me free
Why don't you baby
Let me be
Why don't you baby
Ooh-ooh-ooh
'Cause you don't really love me
You just keep me hangin' on
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Now you don't really want me
You just keep me hangin' on

You say
Although we broke up
You still wanna be just friends
But how can we still be friends
When seein’ you only breaks my heart again
And there ain't nothin’ I can do about it

Whoa-whoa-whoa
Set me free
Why don't you baby
Whoa-whoa-whoa
Get out my life
Why don't you baby
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Set me free
Why don't you baby
Get out my life
Why don't you baby
You don’t really love me
But you keep me hangin’ on
Ooh-ooh-ooh
You don’t really need me
But you keep me hangin’ on

You claim
You still care for me
But your heart and soul needs to be free
Now that you've got your freedom
You wanna still hold on to me
You don't want me for yourself
So let me find somebody else

Hey hey
Why don't you be a man about it
And set me free
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Now
You don't care a thing about me
You're just usin’ me
Ooh-ooh-ooh
Go on
Get out
Get out of my life
And let me sleep at night
Ooh-ooh-ooh
'Cause you don't really love me
You just keep me hangin' on
Ooh-ooh-ooh
You don’t really need me
So
Let me be
Set me free

Reflections
Diana Ross & The Supremes
Through the mirror of my mind
Time after time
I see reflections of you and me
Reflections of
The way life used to be
Reflections of
The love you took from me

I'm all alone now
No love to shield me
Trapped in a world
That's a distorted reality
Happiness you
Took from me
And left me alone
With only memories

Through the mirror of my mind
Through these tears that I'm cryin’
Reflects a hurt I can't control
'Cause although you're gone
I keep holdin’ on
To the happy times
Oh when you were mine

As I peer through the window
Of lost time
Lookin’ over my yesterdays
And all the love I gave all in vain
All the love
All the love
That I've wasted
All the tears
All the tears
That I've tasted
All in vain
All in vain

Through the hollow of my tears
I see a dream that's lost
From the hurt
That you have caused

Everywhere I turn
Seems like everything I see
Reflects the love that used to be
In you I put
All my faith and trust
Right before my eyes
My world has turned to dust

After all the nights
I sat alone and wept
Just a handful of promises
Are all that's left of lovin’ you

Reflections of
The way life used to be
Reflections of
The love you took from me
In you I put
All my faith and trust
Reflections

Come Monday...Kindled

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

The Crackerhead Chronicles is now for sale on [Amazon.com] for $1.00, and I would greatly appreciate published reviews of the book by as many as possible in order to help stimulate sales.  For our situation is looking more and more desperate with each passing day.

Yes, the content of the book has been offered for free for years on here and [FishHawk Droppings], and it still is.  For what I have been given to say has never been meant to be about making money, but we have been sitting here without any income of any kind for almost three months now.

No, not even my Social Security Disability check is still coming in.  For after losing her job last November, Arlynda cashed in her 401K, which left us with more than $3,000.00 in the bank, and the Social Security Administration ruled that I am no longer eligible to receive disability compensation until it can be proven that we have less than $3,000.00 worth of what they consider to be financial resources, which was accomplished late last month.

Well, at least the part about no longer having over $3,000.00 in the bank was accomplished.  In fact, we will drop below $2,000.00 by the end of this week, but until the Social Security Administration says that we are okay in regards to this, we will remain not okay.

Oh, and adding insult to injury, we had to pay back the $653.39 that we had received for November, December and January.  Yeah, when having over a $1,000 a month worth of bills, a government check for $293.02 does not count for all that much, but it is certainly better than nothing.

No, I am not to the panic stage yet, but Arlynda’s deteriorating health is starting to weight quite heavily upon us.  For we just plain cannot afford to pay the almost $1,000 a month [COBRA] cost, and she is now in more desperate need of some of her medications than ever (naturally-speaking, of course).

I am sorry for sounding so vague about her deteriorating health.  I have been hoping that she would be able to write about it herself by now, but it is looking like that is not going to happen anytime soon (if ever).  So, I will publish something about it here in a few weeks.

Be assured that I hate having to beg more than just about anything, but there is also a PayPal donate button over there on the sidebar.  I do not plan on saying any more about it.  Therefore, please do not be reluctant to come by here again.

Oh, and in regards to the reviews of The Crackerhead Chronicles, I am asking for really good ones.  Considering the mindset of many of the regulars around here, it seemed prudent to make that clear.

Okay, if you insist, the review doesn’t have to be glowing, but any reasonable person would have to admit that there is something for just about everyone in the book, I would think.  Hey, there are parts of it that should give even deadly serious atheists a really good laugh!

A Sunday Drive

Back during my childhood, our parents would often load up my brother and me after Sunday morning church services for a leisurely drive around where we lived.  Even though we were seeing mostly familiar sights, it was still good to see them, and this is why “A Sunday Drive” sounded about right for the name of a weekly series revisiting familiar sites that are well worth seeing again and again.  The link below the image is to the site itself, and the image is linked to the post it was first included in here.

Trib Updates

This is a weekly series that will include a brief summary of the latest articles that have been published on The Tribulation Times Herald-Exhorter.  Hopefully, this will encourage you to go check out some truly outstanding articles that have been published by a number of truly outstanding authors.  Moreover, I hope this will also encourage you to want to become a contributing member/author, as well.  The “Hear Ye!  Hear Ye!” site explanation near the top of the side-bar should answer many of your questions.  Yes, this series also included an “SOS! (Spam On Saturdays)”  segment before, but it just wasn’t working for me.  Therefore, that will be replaced by a republishing of one of the Trib articles.

[ESPN Additions] has Drew Brees holding up traffic.

[WhiteHeart Wednesday] contains a video and the lyrics for Gotta Be A Believer.

[Dust in the Wind] has a video and the lyrics for Kansas’ Dust in the Wind.

Believe or not, I am something of a perfectionist.  Now, I am not plumb insane about it, but I really do want to do things as well as I possibly can.

Hence, the reason why I hate it when I write something wrong(ly), and what has been really driving me nuts lately is an apparent inability to properly proofread something before it gets actually published.  For I can live with making initial mistakes, but failing to see where I have either left out a word that should have been included or added a word that should not have been (not to mention spelling errors) is inexcusable—especially after reading what I have wrote several times!

I now know what the problem is, but I don’t know what can be done about it.  For it has to do with me not actually reading what I have written when I go to proofread it.

I don’t know if it is basically the same for most, but the way it is for me is that what I write is like taking dictation.  For it is as if I am hearing the content in my mind as I tap away on the keyboard.

Well, the process actually starts before I sit down at the computer, and this is where things have been going wrong.  For there are often several different ways of saying the same thing in my mind, and they sometimes get mixed together, which does not work so well.  Such as, putting I cannot come up with an example of what I am trying to convey and I cannot come up with an example of what I am talking about, which ends up as I cannot come up with an example of what I am trying to convey about.

Yeah, one would think that a garbled mess like that would be easy to spot during a proofread of the text, but what often happens is that I wind up paying more attention to the right (or at least more correct) way of conveying the message in my head than what actually made it into print.  This often results in me being able to proofread something several times without catching that I left out it at the end of For it has to do with me not actually reading what I have written when I go to proofread it.

So?  Well, is this not another clear indication that there is more going on in our heads than what we have been lead to believe about thinking?

Yeah, it may very well be that I am simply losing my mind, but who amongst us can really afford to be so arrogant as to accept that we are as much on our own in this world as we have been so strongly encouraged to believe on both sides of stained-glass windows?  It is something to think about—is it not?

Sites To See

The SOLE purpose of this weekly series is to help call attention to sites that I think many would find most interesting—in one way or another.  Just to be clear, inclusion in this series is not necessarily meant as a recommendation, and I have included sites that are rather disturbing to me.  The link below each image is to the site itself, and each image is linked to the particular post from which it was taken when applicable.  Please, go see for yourself.  Oh, and as of August 10, 2012, I will be no longer including sites that have auto-play and word verification engaged.

ATF: Straight Trippin'

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to make.  I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Magic Carpet Ride
Steppenwolf
I like to dream
Yes yes
Right between my sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far
Flies near
To the stars away from here

Well
You don't know what
We can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
You don't know what
We can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away

Last night I held Aladdin's lamp
And so I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me
Well someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around
A lousy candle's all I found

Well
You don't know what
We can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well
You don't know what
We can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away

You don't know what
We can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well
You don't know what
We can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me…

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
The Beatles
Where are we?
I don’t know.
It looks like the foothills.
The foothills of what?
The foothills of the headlines.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees
And marmalade skies
Somebody calls you
You answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
And she's gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Aaaaahhhhh

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people
Eat marshmellow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
That grow so incredibly high
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore
Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
And you're gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Aaaaahhhhh

Picture yourself on a train in a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstyle
The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Aaaaahhhhh
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds…

Uh carry on.
Carry on.
Certainly was.
Having gone.
