Well, the plan was
for this to be an announcement of my triumphant return to the blogosphere
(albeit in a somewhat limited capacity) with a new pair of much stronger
glasses around now. For my appointment
with my eye doctor was scheduled for last Friday morning (August 28th)
but as with many a plan with other mice and men, my plan went awry.
Oh yeah, I made my
appointment. It was first time I have
been more than 50 feet from the house since I went to see a doctor after having
to go to the emergency room almost two years ago, but by the grace of our
Heavenly Father, I made it to see (so to speak) the eye doctor.
Now, I do not think
I had become legally blind. For I could
see things, but the only letter on the eye chart I could read was the big E at
the top, with even it being rather fuzzy—even with glasses on.
Nope, there would
be no much stronger glasses for me. For
they insisted upon stopping the bleeding in the back of both of my eyes first,
and then the plan is for me to undergo cataract surgery on both eyes. They did stick a needle with Avastin in my
right eye, however, with the left eye to get stuck this coming Thursday
(September 3rd).
The vision in my
right eye has improved considerably since.
I would not be able to publish this update without that. For it had become to where I could not see
which keys I was hitting on the keyboard.
Arlynda keeps cringing because of the white of my right eye now bing
more red, but I am quite used to her looking at me and cringing after over 20
years of such looks.
Please forgive me
for staying almost completely online, and I think it would be best for me to
remain absent for at least another two weeks because of how overly stressful it
still is. Hopefully, both eyes will be
back by then to where they were before the lines started becoming so blurry 5-6
weeks ago. Getting a new pair of glasses
will be addressed after the cataract surgeries, but it may be that I will no
longer even need glasses after the scales are peeled off.
Thankfully, my eye
doctor is part of a clinic that seems to be untarnished by the current general
state of our health care system, but my mama often said that I was awfully
gullible. Sigh.
I am needing to
take another online time-out. I cannot
go into any details at this time because of my troubles, but this time-out will
include leaving comments here and there as usual. The WhiteHeart Wednesdays on The Trib will
continue, but they been automatically scheduled for quite some time. Hopefully, I will back at it in less than a
month, and I will tell you-all all about then.
This series will include as many of my all-time
favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak). Now, each one included in each edition will
have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination,
but they will not be numbered. For I
just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others. So, this will not be a countdown, but if you
are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter. Besides, with no countdown, this could go on
forever and ever! Oh, and despite the
fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite
as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make. For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by
nature.
We have the
complete Sopranos series on DVD, and we recently completed watching all 86
episodes again. Toward the end, I
wondered (inside of my head) how Tony could be so oblivious to the duplicity of
his nature while expecting others to be upfront with him. It was a rhetorical question I had posed many
times before about him and other characters in the show, but this time I
received an answer of, “It was in the script.”
Alas, I suppose I
am sometimes really not as sharp as I would like to think of myself as
being. For I frequently shake my head in
disgust over Arlynda loving to watch “reality” shows like Chrisley Knows Best, Duck
Dynasty, Hardcore Pawn and Storage Wars because of being obviously scripted
while I have a tendency to forget that such shows as The Sopranos are not real.
Yeah, Arlynda
realizes that her reality shows are not real and calls them her trash. As it turns out, the CNBC shows I like to
watch could also be considered trash because of being too real.
It was around the
same time as we finished watching the entire Sopranos series that I had my
other jolt of reality. For in telling
what would be coming up after the next commercial break, one of CNBC’s anchors
said, GlaxoSmithKline wins approval for the first ever malaria vaccine, but is
there any money to be made from it?
What else should I
expect from CNBC—huh? For on Wall
Street, the making of money is celebrated, and there really isn’t anything
wrong with making money. Within reason,
that is.
My problem is that
I look upon the medical and legal (including politics) professions as being
more of a calling than a means to make money.
For what one does in those professions directly affects countless others—sometimes
even for generations.
On a more personal
level, Arlynda would not be so sick now if there was an emphasis upon actually
treating people over cost-effectiveness.
I also have no doubt that there would be at least an idea for a
treatment of my condition if there was a good profit to be made from it.
Is it not fairly
common for people building products to joke about their shoddy construction as
being job security? After all, if what
they built lasted for a long time, not nearly as many would be needed to be
replaced—right?
Come on now,
connect the dots. Would it not be in the
best interest of hospital systems for people to remain sick while believing
that they are receiving the best possible care?
For when they recover, they do not need to spend money for treatment
anymore.
On the other hand,
supposed preventative care sure is a fat cash cow for the medical
community. Fleecing people coming and
going is celebrated on my trash. Sigh.

Back during our childhood, our parents would often load
up my brother and me after Sunday morning church services for a leisurely drive
around where we lived. Even though we
were seeing mostly familiar sights, it was still good to see them again, and
this is why “A Sunday Drive” sounded about right for the name of a series
revisiting familiar sites that are well worth seeing again and again. The link below the image is to the site
itself, and the image is linked to the post it was first included in here.
The SOLE purpose of this series is to help call
attention to sites that I think many would find most interesting—in one way or
another. Just to be clear, inclusion in
this series is not necessarily meant as an endorsement, and I have included
sites that I found rather disturbing.
The link below each image is to the site itself, and each image is
linked to the particular post from which it was taken when applicable. Please, go see for yourself. Oh, and as of August 10, 2012, I will be no
longer including sites that have auto-play and word verification engaged.
