ATF: Out-There

This series will include as many of my all-time favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make.  For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Twilight Zone
Golden Earring
Somewhere in a lonely hotel room
There's a guy starting to realize
That he's eternal fate
Has turned it's back on him
It's two A.M.

It's two A.M.
It’s two A.M.
The fear has gone
The fear has gone
I'm sitting here waitin'
I’m sitting here waitin’
The gun’s still warm
The gun’s still warm
Maybe my connection
Is tired of takin' chances
Yeah there's a storm on the loose
Sirens in my head
Wrapped up in silence
All circuits are dead
Cannot decode
My whole life spins
Into a frenzy

Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved
Under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Oh whoa oh
Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved
Under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

I'm falling down the spiral
Destination unknown
Double-crossed messenger
All alone
Can't get no connection
Can't get through
Where are you
Well the night weighs heavy
On his guilty mind
This far from the borderline
When the hitman comes
He knows damn well
He has been cheated
And he says

Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved
Under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Oh whoa oh
Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved
Under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Bone bone
When the bullet hits the bone

Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved
Under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Oh whoa oh
Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved
Under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
When the bullet hits the bone
Aha ah
When the bullet hits the bone
When the bullet hits the bone
Aha ah
When the bullet hits the bone
When the bullet hits the bone
Aha ah
When the bullet hits the bone
When the bullet hits the bone
Aha ah
When the bullet hits the bone

Lunatic Fringe
Red Rider
Lunatic fringe
I know you're out there
You're in hiding
And you hold your meetings
I can hear you coming
We know what you're after
We're wise to you this time
We won't let you kill the laughter

Lunatic fringe
In the twilight's last gleaming
This is open season
But you won't get too far
'Cause you gotta blame someone
For your own confusion
But I'm on guard this time
Against your final solution

We can hear you coming
We can hear you coming
No
You're not going to win this time
You're not going to win this time
We can hear the footsteps
We can hear the footsteps
Out along the walkway
Out along the walkway

Lunatic fringe
We all know you're out there
Can you feel the resistance
Can you feel the thunder

The thunder
Thunder

Losing My Religion
R.E.M.
Oh
Life
Is bigger
It's bigger
Than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no
I've said too much
I set it up
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spot
Light
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no
I've said too much
I haven't said enough

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think
I thought
I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour
I'm choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt
Lost
And blinded fool
Fool
Oh no
I've said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip
That brought me to my knees
Failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said
Too much

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think
I thought
I saw you try

That was just a dream
That was just a dream

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spot
Light
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no
I've said too much
I haven't said enough

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think
I thought
I saw you try

But that was just a dream
Try
Cry
Why
Try
That was just a dream
Just a dream

One of Us
Joan Osborne
If God had a name
What would it be
And would you call it to His face
If you were faced with Him
In all His glory
What would you ask
If you had just one question

And yeah
Yeah
God is great
Yeah
Yeah
God is good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make His way home

If God had a face
What would it look like
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that you would have to believe
In things like Heaven
And in Jesus
And the Saints
And all the Prophets

And yeah
Yeah
God is great
Yeah
Yeah
God is good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make His way home
Tryin' to make His way home
Back up to Heaven all alone
Nobody callin' on the phone
'Cept for the Pope
Maybe in Rome

Yeah
Yeah
God is great
Yeah
Yeah
God is good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make His way home
Just tryin' to make His way home
Like a holy rolling stone
Back up to Heaven all alone
Just tryin' to make His way home

Nobody callin' on the phone
'Cept for the Pope
Maybe in Rome

Martin Kloess

My Promise
(Shakespearean Sonnet)
By Martin Kloess

My dear my love my world my precious soul
Please take my hand that I may bless your life
And be your shield for any future strife
To be that piece of life that makes you whole
-
That every day you walk through will be bliss
And all your needs I’ll meet to see you smile
An at your feet such wonders I’ll compile
Your dream your heaven paradise my this
-
But though I dream alas I’m just a man
A man whose dream right now holds only you
Tomorrow’s dream may change oh yes it’s true
But for this dream I’ll do what legends can
-
All this I wish plus love that will not die
But I can only promise this I’ll try

As with every other part of my life in this world so far, my time in cyberspace has been rather bittersweet.   For I have been led to meet (so to speak) several very ugly people, but from time to time, our Heavenly Father has blessed me with meeting a truly beautiful person.

[Martin Kloess] is most definitely one of those truly beautiful people, and aside from some of the most incredible poetry ever written, his [Poetry and Viral Videos] site contains a lesson on the different types of poetic styles he employs that would normally only be available to those attending an elite institution of higher learning.

Okay, there is also the viral videos part to his site, and this is where Martin displays another incredible talent.  For he can find the stupidest videos ever produced.  Yeah, making cranky people like me even crankier is all part of the joke (I hope).  At least between the great poetry and stupid videos on each post can be found good music (even to me, much of the time).

With my energy level being so low, I am amazed at just how much content he can publish each day under normal circumstances, and what makes it even more amazing is that Martin is suffering from [PLS].  I had never heard of this rare neuromuscular disease until meeting Martin.  He tells me that he can no longer actually speak, nor go outside, but that there is no pain.  Nonetheless, our Heavenly Father can sure make it hard to keep believing in His goodness and mercy while we are still in this world.

Speaking of such, I have been having a wonderful time trying to get the initial listings for the new site directory ready and I do not know exactly when it will be ready to launch.  Hence, there will be no more editions to the [A Sunday Drive] series for the foreseeable future.  There are two [ATF] editions already scheduled for each week until the first of June, and then I will publish another progress update on the new site.  Since I am currently around half done and can only work for a couple of hours a day on average, the launch of the new site may not come until Labor Day.  Hey, I was assured of it happening, but I was not promised it being as soon as I wanted it to.  Sigh.

ATF: Meteoric

All-Star
Smash Mouth
Somebody once told me
The world is gonna roll me
I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed
She was looking kinda dumb
With her finger and her thumb
In shape of an "L" on her forehead

Well the years start coming
And they don't stop coming
Fed to the wolves
And I hit the ground running
Didn't make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do
So much to see
So what's wrong with taking the backstreets
You'll never know if you don't go
You'll never shine if you don't glow

Hey now
You're an all star
Get your game on
Go play
Hey now
You're a rock Star
Get the show on
Get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

It's a cool place
And they say it gets colder
You're bundled up now
Wait 'til you get older
But the media men beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture
The ice we skate
Is getting pretty thin
The waters getting warm
So you might as well swim
My world's on fire
How about yours
That's the way I like it
And I never get bored

Hey now
You're an all star
Get your game on
Go play
Hey now
You're a rock star
Get the show on
Get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

Hey now
You're an all star
Get your game on
Go play
Hey now
You're a rock star
Get the show on
Get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars

Somebody once asked
Could you spare some change for gas
I need to get myself away from this place
I said yep
What a concept
I could use  little fuel myself
And we could all use a little change

Well the years start coming
And they don't stop coming
Fed to the wolves
And I hit the ground running
Didn't make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do
So much to see
So what's wrong with taking the backstreets
You'll never know if you don't go
You'll never shine if you don't glow

Hey now
You're an all star
Get your game on
Go play
Hey now
You're a rock star
Get the show on
Get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

Shooting Star
Bad Company
Johnny was a schoolboy
When he heard his first Beatles song
Love me do
I think it was
And from then it didn't take him long
Got himself a guitar
Used to play every night
Now he's in a rock ‘n' roll outfit
And everything's alright
Don't you know

Johnny told his mama
Hey mama
I'm goin' away
I’m gonna hit the big time
Gonna be a big star someday
Mama came to the door
With a teardrop in her eye
Johnny said
Don't cry mama
Smiled and wave goodbye
Don't you know
Yeah yeah

Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know
Don't you know
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
And all the world will love you just as long
As long as you are

Johnny made a record
Went straight up to number one
Suddenly everyone loved
To hear him sing his song
Watchin' the world go by
Surprisin' it goes so fast
Johnny looked around him and said
Well I made the big-time at last
Don't you know
Don't you know

Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know
Whoa
Yeah
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Yeah
And all the world will love you just as long
As long as you are
A shooting star

Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know
Yeah eh
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
And all the world will love you just as long
As long as you are

Johnny died one night
Died in his bed
Bottle of whisky
Sleeping tablets by his head
Johnny's life passed him by like a warm summer day
If you listen to the wind you can still hear him play
Whoa
Whoa whoa

Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know
Don't you know
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know
Don't you know that you are a shooting star
Don't you know…
