Bad, Ugly and Awful Ads

Since not everyone has been as appreciative of my efforts with the Good, Bad and Ugly Ads series as they should be, it seemed prudent to shake things up a bit from time to time.  Hence, Good, Great and Glorious Ads, as well as Bad, Ugly and Awful Ads.  Oh, and if these new approaches are still not to your complete and utter satisfaction, I would tell you what you can do with the point of your view if saying things like that did not now leave such a bitter taste in my mouth.  Therefore, be ye thankful!

Getting Carried Away
Get serious
They said
They must have been delirious
I might add
For when I try to wax poetic
The effort is often quite pathetic
Better stick to prose
I suppose
The prompt is
What it is
Ain’t much for
Poetic punctuations
Correct grammar
Notwithstanding
No rhyming
Without proper timing
Can be called a haiku
It just might do
Just like a Jackson Pollock
Is called fine art
Not by anyone in their right-mind
However
Sophistication
Is thankfully a fleeting sensation
Maybe even drug induced
Depending upon what can be deduced
Don’t have a cow
I’ll shut up now

Come Monday...RED

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

Every so often, I come to enough to realize that I do not always have the best timing.  Okay, it generally sucks.  Happy now?

Take this piece for an example.  For not only was it not ready until several hours past my editor’s deadline, it is about a movie that came out in the fall of 2010.

Oh, but it is not all bad.  For [RED 2] hit the theaters a couple of weeks ago, and if it is even half as good as [RED], it will be well worth twice the price of admission.

Yeah, I am actually gushing as I write this.  For RED is one of the best movies I have ever seen, and Arlynda may have liked it even more than I did, which is really saying something.  For it had to overcome the stigma of me wanting to watch it to begin with before she could start to enjoy the extravaganza.  (Um, it’s a [fairly long story] that I would rather not get into again at this time—okay?)

Anyway, RED is about a bunch of retired [CIA] operatives being wrongfully targeted for termination by the CIA, under orders from a nefarious arms dealer (played by [Richard Dreyfuss]) through the US vice-president, and this is where the fun starts.  For RED stands for Retired: Extremely Dangerous, and Deyfuss’ character must have never been taught as a child that it is best to let sleeping dogs lie, which is made clearly evident by the fact that [Bruce Willis], [Morgan Freeman], [John Malkovich] and [Helen Mirren] can get rather cranky when their nap times are interrupted.  Well, at least the characters they play in the movie can.

Speaking of characters, Malkovic plays another crazy, and I suspect that the reason for this is that he is not acting.  For he has never been the same after [Being John Malkovich].

[Mary-Louise Parker] compliments the cast of veterans quite nicely by playing the love interest of Willis’ character.  Oh, and I most definitely noticed that she looks like she has had a couple of things done to “enhance” her career since her days on [The West Wing].  Of course, it may have been that they kept a couple of her best assets hidden on account of her playing a powerful lobbyist for a feminist group on The West Wing, and I have probably said way too much for my own good..again.

Just in case I have not, another delicious element to RED is the continued mutual respect (and even relative comradery) between former CIA and [KGB] operatives.  For Willis’ character enlists the help of a former KGB operative, who just happens to be still in love with Mirren’s character.

Okay, I probably need to point out that Mirren’s character was actually with [MI6].  For the British can get in such a snit when they feel slighted.  (LOL?)  (Please?)

Now, none of this is meant to suggest that the CIA, KGB and MI6 have been really working together to promote the [Illuminati] agenda all of these years.  Nonetheless, I can see where agents from the opposing sides could get together on neutral ground from time to time and speculate on what kind of nonsense their respective governments are trying to pull.  After watching RED, you just might find yourself wondering the same thing.

Thinking of Christmas Gifts in July 2013

I would think that it would be needless to say, but considering the level of sophistication to many of my readers, it would probably be better to just go ahead and spell it out. Therefore, please be advised that this is one of a number of special edition Sites To See, and all included in it may have something that just might fit quite nicely under your Christmas tree (or stuffed in a stocking) a few very short months from now. As in the regular Sites To See, the link provided below is to the main site, and the images are linked to their particular page, when applicable. The images serve as an example of what they have to offer, and they are not necessarily meant as a recommendation. Although, they do represent something that I liked to at least a certain extent, but since my wife does not like me all that much most of the time (no, I have no idea why, either), I do not expect to see any of them with my name on it. Hopefully, it is better in your family, and I am quite sure that the artisans here would greatly appreciate your business. Besides, spending your money on things that are made and marketed by people not so unlike yourself strikes a blow against corporate greed and all of that other stuff, which is supposed to be a good thing—right?

ESPN Additions

Ironically, some of the best television commercials are for ESPN, and only air on ESPN.  Now, I do not know if these ads really are meant to add all the more to the viewing experience, but it works for me.

ATF: A.M./F.M.

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to make.  I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

W-O-L-D
Harry Chapin
Hello honey
It’s me
What did you think
When you heard me
Back on the radio
What did the kids say
When they knew it was
Their long lost daddy-o

Remember how
We listened to the radio
And I said
That’s the place to be
And how I got the job
As an F.M. jock
The day you married me
It was two kids
And I was into A.M. rock
But I just had to run around
It’s been eight years
Since I left you babe
Let me tell you ‘bout
What’s gone down

I am the morning DJ
At W-O-L-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D
W-O-L-D
Playin’ all the hits for you
Wherever you may be
The bright good morning voice
Who’s heard
But never seen
Aaah
Feelin’ all of forty-five
Goin’ on fifteen

The drinkin’ I did on my last big gig
It made my voice go low
They said that they liked the young sound
Sound sound sound
When they let me go
So I drifted on down to Tulsa Oklahoma
To do me a late night talk show
Now I worked my way down home again
Here to Boise Idaho
That’s how this business goes

I am the morning DJ
At W-O-L-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D
W-O-L-D
Playin’ all the hits for you
Wherever you may be
The bright good morning voice
Who’s heard
But never seen
Aaah
Feelin’ all of forty-five
Goin’ on fifteen

I’ve been makin’ extra money
Doin’ high school sock hops
I’m a big time guest MC
You should hear me talkin’
To the little children
And listen what they say to me
There’s a spot on the top of my head
Just beggin’ for a new toupee
And a tire around my gut
From sittin’ on my
But it’s never gonna go away

Sometimes I get this crazy dream
That I just take off in my car
But you can travel on ten thousand miles
And still stay where you are
I’ve been thinkin’ that
I should stop disc-jockeyin’
And start that record store
Maybe I could settle down
If you take me back once more

OK honey
I see
I guess he’s better than me
Sure ol’ girl
I understand
You don’t have to worry
I’m such a happy man

Worry the bottle mama
It's grapefruit wine
Kick off your high heel sneakers
It's party time
The girls don't seem to care
What's on
As long as they play ‘til dawn
Nothin' but blues and Elvis
And somebody else’s favorite song

Give her some funked up music
She treats you nice
Feed her some hungry reggae
She'll love you twice
The girls don't seem to care
Tonight
As long as the mood is right

No static at all
No static
No static at all
F.M.
No static at all

Give her some funked up music
She treats you nice
Feed her some hungry reggae
She'll love you twice
The girls don't seem to care
Tonight
As long as the mood is right

No static at all
No static
No static at all

The Mag 178

Painting by Andrew Wyeth

Sponsored by [Magpie Tales]

Tigator Trippin’
They said that it would be fun.  Oh yeah, waking up standing stark naked next to a motorcycle out in the middle of nowhere is loads of fun.

Where am I?  Did I ride the bike to get here?  Lots of questions with no answers to be easily found, it would seem.

What was that?  Yeah, they also said, “Take this pill.”  So, am I hallucinating?  What’s with that moon being so big?

What is that standing over there in the shadows?  No, it can’t be.  For tigators cannot really exist.  After all, how can they poop?  If something can’t poop, they are not going to last very long—let alone sustain a bloodline!

What was that pill, anyway?  Whoa, feeling kinda dizzy here.

When Andrew awoke, his head was spinning like a Whirling Dervish.  Lingering thoughts of what he wanted to believe was just quite a dream were even more unsettling.

He sighed in relief when he reached out with his left hand and touched the headboard of his bed.  Nope, he was not standing stark naked next to a motorcycle out in the middle of nowhere.

Something stirring in bed next to him was rather startling, however.  Was that purring he was hearing?

Come Monday...Graceland

No, [Graceland] is not a show about [Elvis’ home]—nor even about Memphis, for that matter.  Although, there is a connection.  For Graceland is about a special team of [FBI], [DEA] and [ICE] agents, who live in a fancy beach house in the Los Angeles area that was confiscated from a notorious drug dealer.  Since the drug dealer was a huge Elvis fan, and had a fairly large collection of memorabilia throughout the house, it was quite natural to refer to the place as being Graceland.  Of course, I am quite sure that the producers of the show did not mind sucking in a lot of Elvis fanatics with the title as an added bonus.

Graceland stars [Aaron Tveit] as [Mike Warren], who has been placed on the Graceland team to investigate [Paul Briggs], being played by [Daniel Sunjata].  If Daniel’s name is familiar, you might be remembering him from a prominent role on [Rescue Me].  He also played a couple of different minor roles on [Law & Order: Special Victims Unit] a few years back.

It took watching 5-6 episodes before Arlynda and I decided that the show is not for us, and to be perfectly honest about it, I don’t know why.  For each scene is intensely packed with potential for high energy action, and I am not talking about the kind of action that could go boom, neither.  Okay, back in the day I would have felt differently, and [Charlie] and [Paige] are particularly easy on my eyes.

Speaking of such, [Scottie Thompson] played a member of the Graceland team for the first three episodes, and I am wondering what may be going on with her.  For she seems to be another spectacular beauty who can only land limited roles when she commands my undivided attention in every scene I have seen her in.

It may be her eyes, which makeS my previous comment about the cast being easy on the eyes…um…well…strange.  For she has ice blue eyes that freak me out.  Oh, but I can stare at the rest of her for hours upon end, as I would think would be the case with most manly men (and even some women).

Anyway, methinks all of the added tension to Graceland makes it unbearable for us.  For maintaining undercover roles while chasing really bad guys day and night is enough drama without throwing in that the FBI suspects Paul of being dirty and having Mike there to prove it as they are depending upon each other to survive the stings relatively intact.

Yeah, one should start taking the reality of getting old seriously when an abundance of eye candy is not enough.  Sigh.
