Roy Orbison vs. Nazareth

Love Hurts
Roy Orbison
Love hurts
Love scars
Love wounds
And mars
Any heart
Not tough
Or strong
Enough
To take a lot of pain
Take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud
Holds a lot of rain
Love hurts

Love hurts

I’m young
I know
But even so
I know a thing
Or two
I learned
From you
I really learned a lot
Really learned a lot
Love is like a stove
Burns you when it’s hot
Love hurts

Love hurts

Some fools rave of happiness
Blissfulness
Togetherness
Some fools fool themselves I guess
But they’re not fooling me
I know it isn’t true
I know it isn’t true
Love is just a lie
Made to make you blue
Love hurts

Love hurts

Love hurts

Love Hurts
Nazareth
Love hurts
Love scars
Love wounds
And marks
Any heart
Not tough
Or strong
Enough
To take a lot of pain
Take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud
Holds a lot of rain
Love hurts
Ooh ooh
Love hurts

I’m young
I know
But even so
I know a thing
Or two

I really learned a lot
Really learned a lot
Love is like a flame
It burns you when it’s hot
Love hurts
Ooh ooh

WhiteHeart Wednesday

MP3 Audio Player From: [BlogDumps Video]

Steel & Stone
WhiteHeart
Is it my imagination
Or do you think it’s really getting
Cold in here
We carry on this conversation
Like neither one
Of us is here

There’s an escalating violence
In the silence
Of our unspoken words
And it doesn’t matter what we say
I promise you there’s not a way
It’s being heard

You are steel
I am stone
Is it any wonder
We feel alone
We’re breaking hearts
Like we’re breaking bones
You are steel
And I am stone

We say the things we do not mean
We mean the things we do not say
And leave no clues
Then act like nothing matters
But something in me shatters
When I hurt you

You are steel
I am stone
Is it any wonder
We feel alone
We’re breaking hearts
Like we’re breaking bones
Words that cut
Looks that kill
The battle of the egos
The clash of wills
I’ve had enough
I’ve had my fill
I do not really want this
You do not really want this
But we just can’t seem to stop it

I’ll bring my stone
You bring your steel
We’ll forge an altar
So we can kneel
Down right here
We’ll pray to God
Turn to ash our stupid pride
Burn the secrets that we hide
Torch this fear
This steel and stone

Oh woe woe

Steel and stone

Oh woe woe woe woe woe woe woe
Oh woe woe woe woe woe woe
Oh woe woe woe woe woe woe woe
Oh woe woe woe woe woe

Steel and stone

TWO FOR TUESDAY

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

***NOTE***
The commercial before the videos may not have any sound,
but the videos will.

Desperado
The Eagles
Desperado
Why don’t you come to your senses
You’ve been out ridin’ fences
For so long now
Oh you’re a hard one
I know that
You’ve got your reasons
These things that are pleasin’ you
Will hurt you somehow

Don’t you draw the queen of diamonds boy
She’ll beat you if she’s able
You know the queen of hearts
Is always your best bet
Now it seems to me
Some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones
That you can’t get

Desperado
Oh you ain’t getting’ no younger
Your pain and your hunger
They’re drivin’ you home
And freedom
Oh freedom
Well that’s just some people talkin’
Your prison is walkin’ through
This world all alone

Don’t your feet get cold in the winter time
The sky won’t snow
And the sun won’t shine
It’s hard to tell the night time
From the day
You’re losin’ all your highs and lows
Ain’t it funny how the feelin’ goes
Away

Desperado
Why don’t you come to your senses
Come down from your fences
Open the gate
It may be rainin’
But there’s a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you
Let somebody love you
You better let somebody love you
Before it’s too
Late

Life In The Fast Lane
The Eagles
He was a hard-headed man
He was brutally handsome
And she was terminally pretty
She held him up
And he held her for ransom
In the heart
Of the cold cold city
He had a nasty reputation as a cruel dude
They said he was ruthless
They said he was crude
They had one thing in common
They were good in bed
She’d say
Faster faster
The lights are turnin’ red

Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane

Eager for action
And hot for the game
The coming attraction
The drop of a name
They knew all the right people
They took all the right pills
They threw outrageous parties
They paid heavenly bills
There were lines on the mirror
Lines on her face
She pretended not to notice
She was caught up in the race
Out every evening
Until it was light
He was too tired to make it
She was too tired to fight about it

Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane
Yeah
Life in the fast lane
Everything
All the time
Life in the fast lane
Uh huh

Blowin’ and burnin’
Blinded by thirst
They didn’t see the stop sign
Took a turn for the worse
She said
Listen baby
You can hear the engine ring
We’ve been up and down this highway
Haven’t seen a g%$ d@*# thing
He said
Call the doctor
I think I’m gonna crash
The doctor say he’s comin’
But you gotta pay him cash
They went rushin’ down that freeway
Messed around and got lost
They didn’t know they were
Just dyin’ to get off

And it was
Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane
Life in the fast lane
Everything
All the time
Life in the fast lane
Uh huh

Life in the fast lane

Life in the fast lane

Come Monday...HBO's Boardwalk Empire

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

Well, it looks like [HBO] has done it again. For after watching the first two episodes of [Boardwalk Empire], it would appear that they have another smash hit on their network—right up there with [The Sopranos], [The Wire], and [True Blood].

Of course, some may take exception to calling The Wire a smash hit. For it never reached the heights of popularity as The Sopranos did, but in regards to being a very well made show, Boardwalk Empire is every bit as good as The Wire.

Okay, I suppose the same argument could be used against True Blood, but it has a fairly large and quite rabid fan base. Added to that are congregations groups of people, who consider the show a guilty pleasure that should be kept quiet about, I suspect.

To be rather frank about it, I didn’t think that the show would be all that when I first started seeing promos for the show. For it stars [Steve Buscemi], who is better known as a loveable loser in comedies like [The Wedding Singer] and the [Adam Sandler] remake of [Mr. Deeds].

Yes, he played [Tony Blundetto], who was a fairly hardcore gangster in a few episodes of The Sopranos, but that is a far cry from being a believable leader of a vicious crime syndicate. Oh my, was I ever wrong about that.

No, this is not a show for overly sensitive types. For it has scenes of graphic violence and sexuality. In fact, in just the first two episodes, they have shown full frontal nudity at least three times, along with a man getting his head blown off by a shotgun blast to the face and another man getting beat to death.

It is a period piece, after all, and the [Roaring Twenties] didn’t get that name by emulating the [Victorian Era]. Furthermore, the [Volstead Act] handed the criminally-minded a golden opportunity to enhance their revenues, which is what Boardwalk Empire is all about.

The show is set in [Atlantic City, NJ] at the very beginning of the [Prohibition Period], and from what I can tell, it is fairly accurate in what could have actually went on back then. For mixed in with the regular cast, it has dealings with the likes of [Al Capone], [Lucky Luciano], [Johnny Torrio], [Frankie Yale], [James Colosimo] and [Arnold Rothstein].

Making it even better is being real subtle about flavoring the script with little tidbits of historical significance, such as a passing remark about Luciano making over a million on the [1919 World Series]. Another thing that really impressed me was when [Jimmy Darmody] mentioned something about serving with the US Army during World War I to [Al Capone], Capone said that he was part of the [Lost Battalion], which is evidently something that he actually did often [lie] about.

With [Terrence Winter] as a principle writer and executive producer, it shouldn’t be any wonder that the show is so good. For he was the force behind The Sopranos, and where he might fall short, [Martin Scorsese], [Mark Wahlberg] and [Timothy Van Patten] would certainly pick up the slack.

As a side-note, I do find it rather interesting that Timothy Van Patten is such a good director of such hardcore scenes. For he is the half-brother of the [father of eight], but I may be the only one who finds this curious.

Oh, oh, oh, I can’t close without mentioning that [Omar] has a significant role in Boardwalk Empire. Now, [Chalky White] has only been in one scene for a few seconds so far, but I have no doubt that he will playing a bigger and bigger part in the whole scheme of things in the near future. For [Michael Kenneth Williams] has quite a presence about him—regardless of what role he is playing.

A Sunday Drive

Back during my childhood, our parents would often load up my brother and me after Sunday morning church services for a leisurely drive around where we lived.  Even though we were seeing mostly familiar sights, it was still good to see them, and this is why “A Sunday Drive” sounded about right for the name of a weekly series revisiting familiar sites that are well worth seeing again and again.  The link below the image is to the site itself, and the image is linked to the post it was first included in here.

The Word Of The Word Repost

The following is another chapter from [Bittersweet Refinements].  Since each part is connected to the rest, it would do you well to keep reading (and listening for our Heavenly Father's explanations, of course).

The Words Of The Word

But what saith it?  The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach. [Romans 10:8 KJV]

Again, let us not make it harder for the lost and confused to fully accept what our Heavenly Father actually says is absolutely true, but how can anyone do this if they are lost or confused themselves?  For how can the blind lead the blind anywhere but to where they know not[1]?

Proof of just how blind far too many are can be found in the fact that most in the Christian community consider “The Word” to be our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible.  For the absolute truth of the matter truly is that “The Word[2]” is the Lord Jesus Christ[3]—not the sum-total of the words that He had placed into written form[4] in order to serve as written confirmation[5] of what He Himself wants to personally reveal, albeit through the efforts of His Holy Spirit[6], to each and every one of us, on an individual basis and without exception[7].

Yes, our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible is often referred to as being the written word of God, but this does not change a thing.  For instead of teaching that faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God[8] means that faith comes from Christ Jesus Himself, it is taught that faith comes from hearing the Bible being preached.

Yes, preceding verses in the related passage certainly seem to support their convictions—especially in regards to there being a need to preach the Gospel far and wide in order to fulfill The Great Commission[9].  For it is written: How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! [Romans 10:14-15 KJV]

On the other hand, how can any of us come to have faith in what is so unnatural to us[10] without the true Word of God being there ahead of any effort made on His behalf[11]?  Therefore, is it not really by His efforts, first and foremost[12], that anyone comes to have faith in Him[13]?

No, this is not just another futile exercise in semantics, nor the splitting of theological hairs, in an effort to make some ridiculous point.  For it is written: “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life.  These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” [John 5:39-40 NIV]

To get the full magnitude of what is being addressed, the entire related passage should be considered.  For it is written: If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid.  There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is valid.  You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth.  Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved.  John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.  I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me.  And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent.  You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.  I do not accept praise from men, but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.  I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.  How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?  But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.  If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.  But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?” [John 5:31-47 NIV]

Simply put, we are talking about a matter of eternal spiritual life and death here[14].  For the faith of far too many is based upon what is contained in our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible instead of upon it’s Author, which is to make it an idol[15].

No, this is not to say that what is contained in our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible is of little value.  For it is written: All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. [2 Timothy 3:16-17 NAS]

Nonetheless, it would do us all well to obtain a proper perspective.  For it is written: Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation.  For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. [2 Peter 1:20-21 NIV]

In other words, Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible was never meant to be employed as a book of instruction—certainly not in the same way as an educational textbook about science, mathematics, nor even history normally would be.  For it is truly a book full of spiritual truths that only the spiritually-minded can correctly discern[16].

Yes, it would be different if we really were as much on our own as we appear to be in our own sight[17], but since we are not[18], would it not be better to have the Author to teach us instead of relying upon just the book by itself?  For it is written: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11:28-30 NIV]

No, it should not be assumed that it is the same for everyone.  For it all depends upon what our Heavenly Father wants to accomplish in and through someone that determines when, and to what extent, He will allow and enable them to come into the knowledge and understanding of His absolute truth[19].

A good example of what I have been given to say about no one being able to truly understand what our Heavenly Father’s Holy Scriptures are really saying without Him allowing and enabling them to can be found in Luke 24:13-49, with the optimum verse of the passage being the 45th one.  For it is written: Then He (thoroughly) opened up their minds to understand the Scriptures. [Luke 24:45 AMP]

Yes, there is something to say for tradition.  For it naturally makes a great deal of sense to us that a belief system would not last very long unless it was based upon something tangible, and our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible is something that we can literally grab a hold of[20].

Therein lies a problem—does it not?  For who could really be sure that what is contained in our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible is any more true than any of the other texts that are held to be sacred by millions upon millions of others of other beliefs if it was not for the witness of His Holy Spirit[21]?

Alas, woe be it to us all if there is really no way to be absolutely sure.  For who can leave this world in peace without such knowledge and understanding[22]?

Since there are still some (quite a few, actually) who insist that the King James 1611 Authorized Version (KJV) is the only true and accurate English-language translation of our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible there is, it would be good to address this before proceeding any further.  For it is pure folly believe in such a way as this[23].

No, this is not to say that the venerable KJV should not be held in high esteem.  For it is as fine of a translation as we have been given, but it is no better than many others.

Yes, there are some versions of our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible that are really not versions at all.  For they have been rewritten to fit a particular set of doctrines adhered to by the followers of certain denominations.

Be assured that the same thing is required to tell the difference between what is truly of our Heavenly Father and what is not—regardless of what version you may be reading.  For the worshippers of the King James 1611 Authorized Version base their claims about its superiority upon the fact that it was compiled from completely accurate copies of the earliest known copies of the original manuscripts in their native language, but how can they be so sure that those copies of the earliest known copies of the original manuscripts really do contain the very words that were given to be placed into written form without the witness of the One who first gave them[24]?  After all, were they not actually copies of earlier copies of earlier copies of even earlier copies, and have not many other versions of our Heavenly Father’s Holy Bible been compiled from the very same texts?

Sites To See

The SOLE purpose of this weekly series is to call attention to sites that I think many would find most interesting—in one way or another.  Just to be clear, inclusion in this series is not necessarily meant as a recommendation, and I have included sites that are rather disturbing to me.  The link below each image is to the site itself, and each image is linked to the particular post from which it was taken when applicable.  Please, go see for yourself.

WhiteHeart Wednesday

MP3 Audio Player From: [BlogDumps Video]

My Eyes Have Seen
WhiteHeart
My eyes have seen

My eyes have seen

My eyes have seen the glory
My eyes have seen the Truth
The bright salvation story
God of Israel
I have seen You

I stood on a mountain top
With the heavens all around me
And I’ve stood on the ocean shore
Felt the power of the thundering sea
But I’ve seen no greater sight
Than the beauty and the Light
The power and the might of You

My eyes have seen the glory
My eyes have seen the Truth
The bright salvation story
God of Israel
I have seen You

I’m still moved by the power and might
The wonder of this world around me
But nothing can touch my heart
Like Love in all its majesty
And I’ve called upon that power
You were there in my needy hour
I’ve felt the mercy shower of You

My eyes have seen the glory
My eyes have seen the Truth
The bright salvation story
God of Israel
The chosen One
I have seen You

Through the window of my eyes
I have see You
Unveiled
Undisguised
I have seen You
Now I’m pushing for the prize

My eyes have seen
Open my eyes

Oh
I’ve seen
Yeah

Jesus the Light of Glory
Jesus the Star of Truth
The bright salvation story
God of Israel

I have seen the glory
Jesus the Star of Truth
The bright salvation story
God of Israel

Shine the Light
Shine the Light of Glory
Shine the Light
Shine

Shine the Light
Shine the Light of Glory
Shine the Light
Oh shine it
